About the MENA region

The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region implements and manages programmes in Yemen, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan.

Programmes within the MENA region reflect Oxfam’s approach to work across the globe. We support self-reliance, not dependency, and to complement our work on the ground we strive to secure lasting change through our campaigning.

The Role

The Research and Advocacy Officer will support strategic advocacy and influencing roles with strong research-based evidence for the development and implementation of advocacy agendas complying with Oxfam program standards and minimum requirements. S/he will provide technical back up and oversight for developing project and program deliverables primarily for a project on reproductive health and rights under Gender Justice program, but also shall deliver similar support across projects under Gender Justice and broader policy and research priorities as needed. S/he will contribute in generating continuous program learning and evidence, production of key policy documents, and other key advocacy and influencing tasks to advance and enhance the work of the Gender Justice program.

Our role will require a range of skills and experience.

Essential

University degree in gender or women’s studies, political science, social work, humanities, international development, or related fields

Good knowledge of socio-economic dynamics related to gender issues in Jordan and the region

At least 1 year of experience working in the gender and social development sector in Jordan as a researcher or project officer preferably in the context of international development and/or humanitarian response

Good knowledge and skills in conducting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research, preferably in the context of gender and social development

At least 1 year working with marginalized or vulnerable and/or youth populations with a strong focus on gender and social inclusion in Jordan including knowledge on key sector stakeholders

Strong and proven research and writing skills (published research is preferable)

Strong organizational and personal management skills, with the ability to prioritise work issues to meet deadlines.

Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships and work in complex teams/groups.

Ability to work creatively, effectively and in an innovative manner and to identify and develop new ideas to further Oxfam’s objectives for Gender Justice.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal English and Arabic.

Previous experience in working with national and/or international NGOs is preferable

Experience using different computer software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and online research skills

Desirable

Experience of working in a multicultural team

Experience in the implementation of public awareness and social norms programming

Contract Length: until the 31st December 2021, renewable.
