The Global Climate Advisor will drive and shape GOAL’s programming on climate outcomes, both as a standalone outcome and through climate-proofing of GOAL’s health, WASH, food and nutrition security, and livelihoods programming, including in emergencies. The Advisor will integrate climate risk management, including vulnerability and adaptation impact analysis, climate risk assessment, and medium/long term responses to these, into GOAL’s programme design, implementation and learning processes. The Advisor will also provide technical support for climate research, will represent GOAL in a range of external technical networks, and will contribute to GOAL’s advocacy on climate change.

The position will be based within a GOAL Middles Eastern Country of Operation – Turkey or Jordan in which the applicant has the right to work, with up to 20% travel to support Country Offices (COs) and to represent GOAL with key stakeholders

Requirements :

Essential

Degree in climate change, environmental management or a related environmental field.

Ability to advise on the integration of climate risk management, including vulnerability and adaptation impact analysis, climate risk assessment, and medium/long term responses to these, into GOAL’s programmatic strategy, design, implementation and learning processes.

Knowledge and experience of climate financing mechanisms, programmes, and sources.

Fluent in English at a standard to allow drafting of technical documents.

At least seven years of experience in INGOs or equivalent, at least five years of which is in climate, environment or a closely related field. Previous experience at Global Advisor level is highly desirable but not essential.

Experience incorporating gender equality and social inclusion in climate adaptation programming, through integrated and targeted approaches.

Ability to represent GOAL with donors, other INGOs, commercial entities and other external institutions.

Experience in providing technical input to proposals

Experience developing training materials and providing training.

Ability and willingness to travel (up to 20%) including to places with difficult living conditions and insecure environments
