How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the Regional Adviser, Nutrition, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and strategic direction to all MENA countries on nutrition in emergencies (NiE).
You will work with all MENA countries facing emergencies to improve UNICEF systems and approaches for NiE. As the emergency focal point for nutrition in MENARO, you will provide both technical and operational support—remotely and via deployment—to priority humanitarian responses, assisting UNICEF Country Offices in the MENA region to deliver on the CCCs in Humanitarian Action.
In coordination with the global and country nutrition clusters, you will mobilize technical capacity to analyze and strengthen nutrition data and systems, both in emergencies and beyond. As the regional emergency focal point for the nutrition section, you will guide and support Country Offices in achieving a sustained level of preparedness and response capacity to adequately handle crisis situations (emergency preparedness and response plan). You will also ensure that country-level staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively lead an emergency nutrition response and will share lessons learned and best practices across the region.
Summary Of Key Functions/accountabilities
- Lead high-quality, proactive technical and capacity-building support to priority humanitarian response in the MENA region
- Support the strengthening of systems for more effective and efficient NiE preparedness and response, specifically focusing on strengthening the humanitarian-development continuum.
- Support countries in strengthening their Nutrition Information systems in emergencies – by drawing linkages to national nutrition surveys and routine data systems
- Support technical developments in NiE – in coordination with HQ and other RO teams

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
The Following Minimum Requirements
- Education: Master’s Degree in one of the following fields: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field.
- Work Experience: Minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional work related to public health nutrition, public health, humanitarian assistance and development, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, or other health related social science field is required.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
The Following Desirables
- Direct, practical experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of nutrition in emergency interventions
- Experience in providing context-appropriate technical support both in person and remotely.
- Demonstrable experience in the nutrition cluster, at country or global level. Experience as a cluster coordinator an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work in difficult and complex environments, and effective management of diverse stakeholders
- Experience in the design and implementation of SMART surveys, national nutrition surveys, and using statistical software such as SPSS. Experience in managing integrated food security phase classification (IPC).
Skills
- Knowledge of UNICEF programs in the field of child survival and development, UNICEF Nutrition Strategic Plan 2020-2030 and the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs)
- Proven skills in communication, influencing and negotiation.
- Experience in using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables), SPSS, and data visualization platforms is desirable.
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English is required. Prior experience in nutrition program/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
- Language: Knowledge of Arabic or another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is considered as an asset.
