Introduction:

The USAID/Jordan Health Services Quality Accelerator Activity is a five-year activity (August 4, 2021, to August 4, 2026), with the overall strategic objective to sustain and advance improvements in equitable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) outcomes, specifically targeting disadvantaged segments of the population. The Activity is employing new and innovative approaches to achieve two expected results: (1) Improved quality of RMNCH services in the public and private sector, and (2) Strengthened Ministry of Health management capacity and leadership role to lead quality care. Part of health system strengthening is to improve research capacity, quality, and utilization. For these efforts to succeed, USAID Health Services Quality Accelerator supports the MOH JMMSR system and Cesarean Section Committee to perform a to determine the perceptions and attitudes towards caesarean section [CS] among women attending maternity care MOH & RMS hospitals in Jordan.

METHODS. Representative sample of women, attending antenatal care in the hospitals, will be interviewed with a structured questionnaire that solicited information on their socio-demographic characteristics, their previous pregnancy and delivery history, and their knowledge and attitudes towards CS., Additionally focus groups discussions and in-depth interviews were held with women who recently underwent CS in the hospital, to gain further insights into attitudes and perception about CS in the women.

The aim of this consultancy is to support the activity in submit a completed manuscript for publishing in a good international journal in collaboration with the national unnecessary primary CS committee.

Consultancy Objectives:

  1. Conduct a study on women's perceptions of cesarean section in selected health facilities from all health sector MCH and hospitals.
  2. Develop a research design incorporating appropriate methodologies and sampling techniques for both qualitative and quantitative designs.
  3. Collect primary data through surveys, interviews, or focus group discussions.
  4. Analyze data using statistical and qualitative analysis methods to identify key themes and trends.
  5. Discuss the findings with the existing literature.
  6. engage with the national Unnecessary Primary CS reduction committee ensuring alignment with their feedback if any throughout the process of completing such research.
  7. Disseminate findings to stakeholders through presentations, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  8. Collaborate on manuscript writing, following journal guidelines and ensuring clear and concise sections.
  9. Facilitate review and revision process, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  10. Identify suitable journals, prepare required documents, and submit the manuscript for peer review.
  11. Address reviewer comments and revise the manuscript accordingly.

Skills or Background Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Master's or Ph.D.) in a relevant field
  • Research background and expertise in reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health
  • Familiarity with cesarean section practices and socio-cultural factors.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques, using statistical software and qualitative analysis tools.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and ability to present findings to stakeholders and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders and ministries of health, fostering effective collaboration.
  • Understanding of research ethics, ensuring participant privacy and data confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage research activities within timelines, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Awareness of cultural context, respecting local norms while conducting research and working with communities.
  • Familiarity with manuscript writing, peer review, and publication ethics, knowledge of relevant journals.
