As part of its global MICS programme, UNICEF is supporting Yemen in the implementation of the MICS6 survey to collect statistically robust evidence on key indicators of the situation of children in the country. The fieldwork of the survey started in 2022 and it is now at the final stage. The work is conducted by the Yemen National Statistical Office within the MICS technical support framework provided by UNICEF HQ, RO and CO, through UNICEF experts and consultants.

How can you make a difference?

In coordination and collaboration with the Global MICS Team, Middle East and North Africa Regional Office and Yemen UNICEF Country Office, the Data Processing consultant will provide technical remote and in-country support, to ensure the completion of the MICS data analysis and the production of the final MICS report.

In particular, the consultant will lead the work for the preparation of the draft tabulations for the national report, contribute to the MICS Data Interpretation and Report Compilation (DIRC) workshop and finalize the tabulation for the national report, incorporating and addressing the comments received from the reviewers.

Main tasks

1. Conduct the data analysis work with and in coordination the staff of the national statistical office and the MICS technical support team, and prepare the draft tabulation for the MICS in Yemen, including all the governorates included in the survey (5 days)
2. Contribute to the DIRC workshop (involving a mission of around 10 days – venue and duration to be determined), supporting the national statistical office staff in reviewing the draft tables and finalize them
3. Based on the review of the DIRC workshop finalize the tabulations for the final report, support the final review process and incorporate the comments and inputs of the reviewers (5 days).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Demography, Statistics, Epidemiology, or other related technical field with significant measurement, analysis or quantitative research background is required.
• At least [5 years] experience in the support or management of quantitative household surveys.
• Solid expertise in statistical analyses including familiarity with data processing and data analysis software.
• Experience in survey report writing.
• Solid Experience with SPSS, Stata and/or R
• Document experience with the MICS programme
• Experience in working in support of national statistical office
• Ability and willingness to travel to short missions to Yemen.
• Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously within a multicultural environment and communicate complex ideas.
• Proactive and dynamic personality with attention to detail.
• Result driven and strong planning and organizing skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Desirable:

• Previous work experience and knowledge of the Yemen context
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
