LOCATION: Amman – Jordan

CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed Term

GRADE: E1 National

JOB FAMILY: Progamme

SALARY: JOD 11,655 – 14,811 gross per annum

HOURS: 40 hours per week

DIVISION PURPOSE: To provide and/or or supervise the provision of technical support and assistance to the programme within an area of specialism

TEAM PURPOSE: One of the key program pillars in Oxfam’s Country Strategy for Jordan is Climate Justice. Oxfam recognizes and addresses the vulnerability and risks of climate change on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable while acknowledging that they contribute the least to its causes. In Jordan, Oxfam aims to increase the understanding of individuals and communities on the impacts of climate change, identify vulnerabilities and risks on communities, and generate evidence on ways to build resilience of vulnerable groups and communities.

Oxfam in Jordan’s Climate Justice team works together with local communities, refugees, local partners and local government to deliver interventions that address the community needs in terms of water, waste management and public health engineering.

JOB PURPOSE: this role will support in the implementation of the circular economy and green growth project under the EU. The Assistant will support the project manager in the implementation of pilot projects in Mafraq and in Za’atari Refugee Camp as well as advocacy and research components with the project partner.

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Most tasks well defined technical activities within objectives set by manager with some routine reactive work in response to requests
  • Job holder draws from a number of information sources to inform individual and group decisions
  • Job may involve some programme admin support but on balance the focus of and nature of the responsibilities are aimed at supporting programme delivery

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in processes related to procurement of materials and follow up with internal staff and support teams to implement the assigned project
  • Support in the implementation of field work activities with other project staff in field locations
  • Support in the implementation of community-based awareness raising activities
  • Assist project manager in day-to-day activities related to project implementation, management of partner activities, etc.
  • Provide support with coordination and communication with internal and external project stakeholders
  • Support in collection of data
  • Support in the oversight of sub-contractor/consultant activities related to the project
  • Communication and coordination with internal staff for technical project implementation
  • Other tasks as assigned in relevance to the project and other programmatic priorities

Experience, Knowledge & Competencies

Essentials

For this role, you will need to model Oxfam’s feminist leadership approach so we have selected the most relevant feminist leadership practices which we will use for assessment purposes (which you can read more about here):

In addition, an ideal candidate will also have:

  • At least 1 – 2 years of experience in Jordan in the solid waste management and circular economy sectors as a project assistant or officer
  • Knowledge of the solid waste management and circular economy sector in Jordan
  • Experience in project coordination
  • Experience or knowledge in community engagement, awareness raising or behaviour change
  • Experience working in the field with refugee hosting communities and similar contexts

At interview, shortlisted candidates will also be assessed on our values and organisational attributes, as outlined above.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with INGOs in Jordan in humanitarian settings
  • Experience in implementing Cash-for-work modalities in Jordan
  • Educational background in environmental and/or water engineering or other similar fields with relevant experience
