JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to gender transformative and inclusive programme activities with a focus on gender equality, women’s empowerment and disability inclusion throughout WFP’s emergency operation, working with all units within WFP.

The objectives of this role are to:

  1. Providing technical assistance to documentation, reporting, and knowledge sharing to foster gender equality, improve meaningful disability inclusion and enhance women’s empowerment through WFP supported programmes.
  2. Strengthen strategic partnerships and advocate for WFP strategic priorities through active engagement with different stakeholders and interagency level at Cox’s Bazar.
  3. Undertaking and participate in different learning and sharing modules, events, webinars, courses to develop a skilled attitude for further supporting WFP programmes also sharing the knowledge in different platforms and within team members.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, in Cox’s Bazar Office the incumbent will be responsible for completing these responsibilities, but is not limited to:

  • Conduct regular field visits to WFP’s programme sites in camps and host community to identify barriers and opportunities in relation to gender and disability inclusion.
  • Conduct consultations with women, girls and persons with disabilities in collaboration with other programme units.
  • Provide support on gender and disability inclusion mainstreaming to programme and functional units.
  • Support to capacity strengthening initiatives including developing of training materials on gender and disability inclusion for WFP staff and cooperating partners
  • Provide support to foster collaboration with organizations with persons with disabilities in the camps and host community to leverage WFP’s reach.
  • Analyze the field findings with gender and inclusion aspects and come out with practical recommendations to inform programmes and cooperating partners to consider into programme implementation and future interventions.
  • Work with the communication team to develop gender sensitive and inclusive IEC materials, gender and disability inclusion brief and factsheet.
  • Support to organize quarterly catch-up event with disability inclusion champions from different unit of WFP.
  • Support documentation of current trends, challenges, best practices, needs and priorities in gender and disability inclusion in the context.
  • Active contribution and participation at the advocacy campaigns on women empowerment, gender equality, disability inclusion and preventions of gender-based violence, in collaboration with WFP programme and with other UN agencies through support on developing event concepts notes, IEC materials, messages, budget, event planning, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Any additional responsibility and assignments shared from the supervisor.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility, including to travel on different programme sites of WFP and in challenging and difficult environment.
  • Openness to intensive mentoring support with a view to taking over responsibility for protection, gender and disability inclusion in the entire Cox’s Bazar operation.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

University degree in one of the following disciplines: gender studies, human rights, law, political or social sciences, or another related field.

Experience:

At least four(4) years of experience, with two years of relevant experience in humanitarian or development programmes. Individuals with experience in gender and inclusion in humanitarian settings will be preferred.

Key skills:

  • Excellent communication, research, written and oral presentation skills.
  • Team spirit and excellent interpersonal relations.
  • In-depth and operational understanding of integrating protection, gender equality, women’s empowerment, accountability to affected populations, disability inclusion, sexual and gender-based violence, conflict-sensitive programming, and humanitarian principles into humanitarian assistance.
  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge and skills in training and facilitation, including adapting materials for the audience. Client orientation with excellent interpersonal and team skills, including mentoring skills. Cross-cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of UN system policies and functions of protection-mandated agencies.
