The Foundation Program under the Deanship of General Studies is committed to developing students English language proficiency and mathematics skills to a level that will allow them to succeed in the academic programs of Qatar University. Through innovative, research-based educational practices, the program aims to help students achieve academic readiness by fostering their intellectual curiosity. With more than 7000 students and 187 faculty and staff, the Foundation Program offers a dynamic, innovative and professional work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
BasicFunction and Responsibility:
. Provide one-to-one tutoring and small-group activitiesonline and/or in person.
. Oversee and encourage the use of the university'slearning resources including printed, audio-visual, and computer-basedequipment, and other learning support methods and materials as they aredeveloped.
CharacteristicDuties and Responsibilities:
Preparation:
. Prepare paper and online support material to beused in support and review sessions.
Administration:
. Assist at risk students by informing them oftheir status, monitoring their attendance, and developing their language acquisitionskills.
. Market Success Zone services to enhance theperformance of students registered in all foundation courses.
. Chart learners second language acquisition intheir English classes to their major coursework whether they are in an Arabicor English stream major by formulating an independent language learning plan.
. Enhance student success through increasingmotivation and developing their confidence and soft skills.
. Coach learners in specific areas of need insecond language acquisition, for example, self- monitoring, memorizing newvocabulary, and/or seeking out conversational practice activities.
. Provide access to physical and online resourcesthat learners can use to develop their second language learning strategies.
. Update SharePoint and Blackboard on a regularbasis to reflect the services and student visits.
. Provide workshops online and in-class on soft skillsand language acquisition skills.
. Participate in organizing and planningextra-curricular student initiatives and events that enhance student successand the acquisition of English skills.
. Provide online and in-class instruction whenneeded.
Communication:
. Communicate with learners about their individualstatus ad progress in second language acquisition so that learners can see theprogress they are making over time.
. Liaise with the Foundation Program StudentAffairs Section, Student Learning Support Center, Student Placement andProgress committee, and Special Needs Support Center.
. Counsel students who struggle with their Englishlanguage classes in terms of motivation, participation, and/or expectations.
Assessment
. Report on the attendanceand performance of students bi-weekly, monthly or by end of the semester basedon the data required.
. Evaluatethe efficiency of academic support services through student participation,surveys and focus groups, etc.

Required Documents
Academic:

  1. Current Curriculum Vitae with Cover letter.
  2. Teaching,research, and service philosophy.
  3. Three referees contact information (physical and email addresses as well their telephones contact).
  4. Copy of highest earned credential (transcript of highest degree if graduated from an institution where course work was completed. However, if no course work was completed,an copy of certificate letter from the registrar of your highest credential granting institution regarding your highest academic degree).
  5. Any additional documentation that you feel is relevant to your application.
