Posting Details Posting Number S00501 Position Title CMEI Student Events Programmers Employment Status Student Work-Study Hourly Wage $15.87 Employee Category Student Department Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion Location Student Engagement and Wellness Position Summary The Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion (CMEI ) utilizes institutional data, research, and best practices to help inform the campus community about the needs, concerns, and issues facing students at MSU Denver to promote greater equity for, and completion of the student population at MSU Denver. The CMEI delivers programs and services designed to increase student engagement, support academic achievement, and aims to create an inclusive and welcoming community for students, faculty, and staff. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Events in the CMEI , the Student Events Programmers position will work with the CMEI to develop, coordinate, and implement a variety of programs, events, and co-curricular opportunities that reflect students and campus needs. The Student Events Programmers will recommend and actively develop structured co-curricular opportunities for students that encourage equity and inclusion, student learning, enhance the overall co-curricular experience, and build community. Furthermore, the Student Events Programmers will assist with the development, promotion, and execution of a comprehensive co-curricular campus events program that creates a fun and dynamic atmosphere at MSU Denver and builds a strong campus community. The position regularly includes time promoting events on campus at information tables, planning and working individual events, and collaborating with other campus offices and departments to support the Center’s goal of affirming/exploring identity, building community, and cultivating leaders. Student Events Programmers will abide by all the policies and procedures required of student employees at MSU Denver. We strive to provide a foundation for all community members to achieve personal and professional success. #LI-DNI Duties/Responsibilities * With the pursuit of intellectual stimulation, equity and inclusion, student learning, and community building as the main focus of each programmer, they will work to develop an ethos of excellence in program delivery, variety, and consistency throughout the year.
* Recommend and plan series of events and opportunities as described above and develop a master calendar for the year. Programmers will make significant efforts to provide ways for MSU Denver students to enhance their overall co-curricular experiences through development of, exposure to, and delivery of social, cultural, multi-cultural, intellectual, and recreational activities. The quality and quantity of events as well as diversity of interests served are of paramount importance.
* Collaborate with other programmers, students, and professional staff to ensure teamwork and consistency in all aspects of the CMEI .
* Collaborate with other agencies of the college and campus in co-sponsorships and joint programming efforts.
* Program details such as working with agents; negotiating contracts; budgeting and all administrative tasks in a timely manner; facilities, space and equipment reservations, and set-ups; day-of-event management; publicity for event; security; event evaluations; etc.
* Assist in office and general duties – including duties such as phone coverage, participating in all staff meetings & retreats, writing reports required by professional staff in a timely manner, staffing booths, committee (task force, work group) meetings, maintenance of the office’s Master Events Calendar, etc., and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Candidates will have a GPA of 2.67 or above, an interest in supporting the mission of the CMEI , and a commitment to ongoing learning about social justice, systems of power and privilege intersectionality of identity, and empowerment.
* Must be in good standing (e.g., academic and financial aid), currently enrolled at MSU Denver, and has work-study.
* Ability to work with a diverse population of students as well as faculty and staff members.
* Ability to work independently while functioning as a member of a team.
* Must have strong communication, organizational, and customer relationship skills. This position is a highly responsible position which requires oversight of co-curricular programming and relationship building with students, faculty, and staff.
* Must be creative, responsible, punctual, motivated, detail oriented, very organized, willing to take risks, willing to work long hours at times, leadership, sense of humor, campus pride, self-starters, etc.
* Ideal candidates who will enjoy working in a high energy and high traffic area. Preferred Qualifications Posting date 03/22/2022 Closing date 09/05/2022 Closing Instructions Open Until Filled Work Hours 10-20 hours/week during the semester. Opportunity for summer employment depending on work-study allocation. Benefits MSU Denver offers temporary, non-benefit eligible employees sick leave. The sick leave is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed a maximum of 48 hours in a calendar year.
