About ARDD

Founded in 2008 in Amman-Jordan, Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) is a Civil Society Organization seeking to reinitiate a new Nahda (Arab Renaissance) project to contribute to addressing the challenges faced by the Arab World, building on the achievements and ideas of the Arab Nahda and aiming to open the doors for future participation in formulating concrete actions to achieve the desired change and development. ARDD supports marginalized individuals and communities—including refugees and migrants— in acquiring and enjoying their social, political and economic rights, through legal aid, psychosocial support, media and grassroots mobilization, and research and advocacy to raise stakeholders’ awareness locally, regionally and internationally about the challenges that vulnerable persons face in Jordan and the Arab Region. ARDD’s operations adhere to a holistic approach and cover nine main thematic areas; Gender Justice, Youth Enablement and Education, Social Peace and Cohesion, Governance, Legal Aid and Justice Sector Development, Right to Information and Freedom of Speech, Forced Migration Refugees and Shataat, Human and Economic Development, Relief and Recovery. Thus, ARDD’s programs do not function in a vacuum and undertake complementary approach throughout the organization’s functions.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor for Inclusive Social Protection and Al Nahda Center coordinator, the Research Assistant is expected to support Al Nahda Center in all research related activities by ensuring efficient implementation of research and data analysis processes and systems with regards to inclusive social protection. The Research Assistant will conduct various types of activities related to research through data analysis, questionnaire design, and field work as needed. She/he will also help liaise with different network of outside consultants/researchers and will provided technical input and support on day‐to‐day tasks related to research. This role will also include administrative and planning responsibilities as per the needs of Al Nahda Center in the short, medium, and long term.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist with the copywriting, editing, and preparation of various publications;
  • Help arrange and conduct qualitative field interviews as requested;
  • Provide support in drafting research outlines and preliminary literature reviews on issues of inclusive social protection;
  • Develop new or revise current relevant templates for the operations of the inclusive social protection program;
  • Help liaise with partners as needed, including attending meetings (online and in-person, some of which may take place outside of regular working hours)
  • Support coordination with other colleagues to ensure complementarily and analysis of all ARDD direct managements;
  • Support the preparation of materials for submission to donors and funding agencies and foundations;
  • Support in maintaining regular contact with relevant institutions and networks;
  • Ensure follow-up for relevant meetings with partners;
  • Where needed, support logistics, organization, communication according to the needs of the unit;
  • Undertakes field visits to the research areas and travel whenever requested by the management;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the direct manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Political Science, Human Rights, Law, or a related social science (Political Science, Economics, Sociology or any related field);
  • 2-3 years of experience with international/local organizations in implementing research, policy, and/or advocacy related work;
  • Knowledge of Social Protection frameworks (an asset not required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from various cultural and social backgrounds;
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in English and Arabic (an asset, not required), both verbally and in writing;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and to travel to the field/remote areas in the project sites

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:

  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic (an asset, not required).
  • Strong analytical skills and creative thinking.
  • Ability to multi task.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintain consistent and effective communication with supervisors (working in Amman and remotely).
  • Be able to work in a multicultural environment.
