Pediatric Clinical Case Management of COVID-19 Specialist Consultant  

Background

The COVID-19 emergency is burdening health systems around the globe, and health care providers (HCPs) are faced with the challenges of managing COVID-19 patients, along with their normal case load. HCPs must ensure appropriate infection prevention control (IPC) for other patients in hospitals while simultaneously taking care of their own well-being. Past health emergencies demonstrated that even the most qualified personnel require continuing education to respond safely and effectively to new health threats.   

The private sector health workforce includes private hospital employees, general practitioners, other health workers at small private clinics and graduating students and faculty at private and public health training institutions. 

LHSS will assist the Ministry of Health (MOH) to improve private sector preparedness and response to the COVID-19 pandemic by developing and leading a series of training modules focused on IPC, clinical case management, and other services such as mental health counselling.   

A Senior Pediatric Clinical Case Management of COVID-19 consultant is required to review, tailor, and deliver training modules focused on clinical case management for children confirmed with COVID-19 for private sector health care professionals working in the private hospitals in Jordan.   

The estimated level of effort for this assessment is 15 working days during the period of August –October 2020.   

Approach  

In response to the need for training related to the clinical case management of confirmed COVID-19 pediatric cases in the Jordanian private health sector, the LHSS activity, a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded three-year project, will work closely with implementing partners to customize existing, evidence-based training materials from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), endorsed by the Jordanian MOH. LHSS will support Jordanian partners to facilitate a variety of online training courses, lectures, and webinars that address the key competencies and skills needed to respond to COVID-19. LHSS will ensure the training and course offerings include an adult learning approach that is learner-centered. These trainings will be structured in a “module” format.   

The Pediatric Clinical Case Management of COVID-19 consultant will be responsible for customizing and leading 6 live webinars covering the Case Management for Children Confirmed with COVID-19 Module.

The module includes the following topics:

Clinical and diagnostic features in children 
Comorbidities 
Clinical management protocol for children with confirmed COVID-19 cases
- Treatment guidance for children

Considerations in management of infants, born to mothers confirmed with COVID-19 
  The module is designed to be a hands-on practical guide for HCPs involved in clinical case management of confirmed COVID-19 pediatric cases.   

Expected tasks

Adapt existing materials to be suitable for the Jordanian Private Sector Hospital setting, using the existing information from WHO and USAID Health Service Delivery endorsed by the Jordanian MOH. 
Produce a training outline and presentation to be used to deliver the live webinars.
Conduct six webinars through the WebEx platform (provided by LHSS Jordan) 
Provide inputs to the Grantee for the comprehensive training report in English, including the training materials and agenda
Submit a final consultant report in English, reporting on the outcomes of the trainings, and integrating feedback and comments from LHSS and USAID
  Qualifications:

Clinical degree in medicine, completed pediatric residency for at least 3 years, and ideally an infectious diseases training for 3 years.
At least seven years of practical experience working as a pediatrician in hospitals.
Preference for applicants with at least seven years of experience working in or with the Jordan private hospital sector.
Demonstrated experience in developing adult-centered learning techniques and training platforms.
Experience working with USAID, WHO, and international NGOs is preferable.
Fluency in Arabic and English.
