Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan: Job Vacancy
As the official representation of Switzerland accredited in both the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and in the Republic of Iraq, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic and financial affairs, humanitarian aid, development cooperation, legal arrangements, science, education, and culture.
Residence Chef – 100 %
The Residence Chef is responsible to provide, to a high standard, culinary services for non-official and official functions at the Switzerland Ambassador’s residence. The Chef organises the kitchen at the residence including providing ingredients and cooking. The Chef oversees day-to-day property maintenance of the official residence.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Residence Chef

makes an essential contribution to projecting the culinary image of the Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan;

is willing to give his/her best in order to make invitations at the residence a memorable and pleasant experience for the Embassy guests;

upholds the highest standards for gastronomy, efficiency and hygiene at the residence kitchen;

is the main support of the Ambassador's wife in the preparation of seated dinners, buffet dinners, cocktail parties, business lunches and other formats at the residence and outside;

has knowledge about where to find ingredients and supplies according to the best quality-price relation;

possesses a keen grasp of the seasonality of local fresh products;

operates economically and in a cost-efficient manner;

maintains accurate records and reconciliations for all expenditure and activities, including keeping receipts for purchases;

takes good and responsible care of all the kitchen equipment;

is interested and willing to receive continuous training and to make a constant own contribution to his/her personal professional improvement;

has no reticence as to using ingredients central to Swiss cuisine, such as alcoholic beverages, pork etc.;

shows active interest in the Swiss and other international cuisines;

fits well into a small team and feels co-responsible for the smooth cooperation in an inter-cultural setup;

assumes coordinating and supervising activities for kitchen helpers, service personnel and other external staff;

respects the privacy of Ambassador's family, applies absolute discretion and confidentiality;

works with integrity and honesty.

Skills

Excellent command of English and Arabic

Ability to work autonomously if needed

Creativity and flexibility

Ability to work under pressure and to embrace challenges, willingness to take responsibility and to continuously improve

Team player and service orientation

Solid computer skills (MS Office)

Experience and Education

Professional qualifications in the culinary field

Relevant work experience

Experience abroad or within an international environment is an asset.
