Local Associate

Location:        Irbid/Kfarsoum, Jordan

Reports to:     Financial Services Officer 

Type:              Full-time, Project

Travel:             Yes, 50% of time

The Near East Foundation (NEF) is seeking candidates for a Local Associate to be based in Irbid/Kfarsoum, Jordan. 

For over 100 years, NEF has worked to build more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East and Africa through education, governance, and economic development initiatives. NEF’s work is organized around three program areas: Peacebuilding through Economic Cooperation, Inclusive Economic Development, and Climate Resilient Development.

Position Description:

The Local Associate has the responsibility to ensure smooth and quality implementation and proper documentation of the objectives and activities. The Local Associate is expected to assist in the daily activities for a program that aims to reduce vulnerabilities to social protection risks for highly vulnerable Syrians and Jordanians and improve livelihoods and business scalability for Jordanian entrepreneurs through civil society-led, center-based interventions that are tailored to individual needs and include financial support, training, coaching and peer mentorship, and support networks.  Under the supervision of the Financial Services Officer, the Local Associate will have the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate program activities and field work;
Supervise and manage a team of volunteers to ensure project activities are implemented as outlined in the work plan;
Assign tasks to staff members and volunteers and provide follow up and guidance;
Contribute to establishing and implementing operational work plans, setting clear targets and activity plans per activities/trainings in direct coordination with NEF head office and partners;
Maintain continuous line of communication with NEF head office on daily basis;
Ensure smooth exchange of information between partners and volunteers’ program, beneficiaries, and the community;
Provide technical support as needed;
Contribute to ongoing field assessments and data collection and entry as/when required;
Ensure data are accurately collected, entered, and shared on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis;
Provide information and advice on existing services for beneficiaries and walk-ins at the Siraj center;
Collaborate with partners and other agencies when required;
Compile relevant information on available services in assigned location;
Plan, coordinate and facilitate distribution of materials when needed;
Maintain records, report problems or concerns to NEF’s head office and program partners;
Support other project activities as needed.
 

Qualifications:

University degree in Social Sciences or any other relevant field;
Minimum of two years’ experience in community mobilization for international NGOs;
Familiar with report writing;
Familiar with the cultural, socio-economic and political environment in the relevant districts;
Knowledge of basic IT tools, in particular MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Ability to live and work in Jordan without company sponsorship.
 

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Position pending. January 2020 anticipated start date.
