We welcome<br \/>diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and skills so that we can be stronger and have long term impact.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Program \/ Department \/ Team (Program \/ Department Summary)<\/strong><br \/>Despite being one of the most water-scarce countries in the world, floods are a common hazard in<br \/>Jordan, with intensity and frequency expected to increase due to climate change. Floods accounted for<br \/>nearly 40 percent of hazards in the country between 1900-2018. Intermittent, high-intensity rainfall on<br \/>arid and dry hills carries sediment and water into the cities. Recent flash floods have disrupted social<br \/>cohesion and led to a further strain in the relationship between communities and the Government of<br \/>Jordan, which is facing a drop in public confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Mercy Corps Jordan through the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance (ZFRA) program is working with 11<br \/>flood-prone communities (in urban and rural areas) to measure their resilience, develop interventions<br \/>with the communities to address flood risks, advocate with the government to address these gaps, and<br \/>share learnings with government officials and in global-level policy, forums focused on climate change<br \/>and disaster risk reduction. The interventions will not only strengthen physical infrastructure but also<br \/>build social and human capital through activities such as the participatory development of community<br \/>evacuation plans. The program will further facilitate the development and training of community<br \/>advocacy committees \u2013 the committees will identify flood resilience support needs and advocate to<br \/>local government stakeholders on improved policies and investment. This participatory approach will<br \/>equip communities with networks, platforms, and skills so they can actively engage with and influence<br \/>local policies beyond the program phase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Position (General Position Summary)<\/strong><br \/>The Project Assistant is responsible for the supporting the daily smooth running of ZFRA Project<br \/>activities. S\/he will serve as a primary contact person for the project participants and will follow up on<br \/>their inquiries. Project Assistant will also be tasked with data collection, surveys, submitting progress<br \/>reports and making logistics arrangements in cooperation with other Mercy Corps staff. The project<br \/>Assistant will also establish, interact and maintain relations with different Mercy Corps team and proejct<br \/>stakeholders. Frequent travel to the field from Amman will be required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\u2022 Create and update calendars, schedule meetings, site visits and other logistical<br \/>arrangements as needed.<br \/>\u2022 Create online tracking sheets and logs for all paperwork related to project activities and<br \/>keep it updated.<br \/>\u2022 Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the project<br \/>stakeholders in targeted communities including all community members, relevant<br \/>government bodies, CBOs, other INGOs, and private sector.<br \/>\u2022 Process, follow up on and track project procurement processes to initiate process and close<br \/>it, this includes participation and attendance in bid preparation, tendering, technical<br \/>evaluation, contracts award and all related meetings and logistical arrangements.<br \/>\u2022 Coordinate with other team members, departments, suppliers, and communities for any<br \/>delivery of goods and\/or services.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Travel to project locations as planned and required in coordination with ZFRA team for day-<br \/>to-day implementation of project activities<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Maintain a soft and hard filing system in accordance with Mercy Corps Policies and<br \/>Procedures.<br \/>\u2022 Ensure the compliance with Mercy Corps, donor policies and communication protocols, and<br \/>ensure the successful implementation of agreed upon activities.<br \/>\u2022 Support on the project flood resilience approach to help strengthen communities\u2019 resilience.<br \/>\u2022 Attend virtual meetings with global ZFRA team as instructed by supervisor.<br \/>\u2022 Document all program activities, achievements, and challenges on project tracking sheets<br \/>and in weekly\/monthly reports.<br \/>\u2022 Submit required reports (field visit reports, activity reports, weekly reports) to the direct<br \/>supervisor.<br \/>\u2022 Ensure proper visibility of project activities, and support the facilitation of media products<br \/>development and success stories documentation.<br \/>\u2022 Serve as the government liaison for the ZFRA team.<br \/><strong>Others:<\/strong><br \/>\u2022 Conduct himself\/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit<br \/>to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.<br \/>\u2022 Other duties as assigned by the direct Supervisor and\/or the Pillar Director.<br \/><strong>SECURITY (FIELD POSITIONS ONLY)<\/strong><br \/>\u2022 Carry with you the Jordan Constant Companion form especially when in the field.<br \/>\u2022 When planning a field visit, and if a driver is not available, drive Mercy Corps vehicle ensuring to<br \/>adhere to safe driving practices and road speed limits.<br \/>\u2022 In all emergency situations, after ensuring all staff is safe and calling the emergency services, if<br \/>necessary, contact the Security Focal Points (SFP) and make an Immediately Oral Incident<br \/>Report.<br \/>\u2022 Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supervisory Responsibility<\/strong><br \/>None.<br \/><strong>Accountability<\/strong><br \/>Reports Directly To: Senior Project Officer<br \/>Works Directly With: ZFRA team, Targeted communities, MC support departments (Engineering<br \/>department, PAQ, Finance, Admin and Procurement teams).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders<\/strong><br \/>Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our<br \/>program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding<br \/>international relief and development work.
