Primary Purpose:
The main responsibility of an English teacher is to help students understand English, speak it, and be able to write and read it. The duties will range from the preparation of course work, planning of classes, and the marking of work handed in.
Responsibilities: <\/p>\n
Assessing the students\u2019 progress (e.g. homework, exam grades, etc.) <\/p>\n
Building trusting relationships with students, parents, and other staff <\/p>\n
Organize classroom lectures and coursework <\/p>\n
Assign homework and interesting exercises <\/p>\n
Identify students with special requirements and create individualized plans <\/p>\n
Determine exam and assignment grades <\/p>\n
Provide feedback based on workload and classroom behavior <\/p>\n
Keep a record of students\u2019 attendance and grades <\/p>\n
Research new language teaching methods <\/p>\n
Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict <\/p>\n
Inform parents about their children\u2019s performance <\/p>\n
Collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience <\/p>\n
Reading all prescribed novels, poetry, and additional resources to gain a thorough understanding of them before developing lesson plans and curricula. <\/p>\n
Collaborating with other English department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, and interventions. <\/p>\n
Preparing students for formal and informal assessments. <\/p>\n
Grading tests, pop quizzes, assignments, exams, and other assessments, and communicating with parents, students, teachers, and counselors regarding underperformance and other concerns. <\/p>\n
Keeping abreast of current events and incorporating these events and themes into lessons to make them more relevant to students. <\/p>\n
Ensuring all curriculum and school requirements are met. <\/p>\n
Assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers. <\/p>\n
Using technology to improve lesson delivery and recordkeeping. <\/p>\n
Expanding teacher networks and participating in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.
Qualifications: <\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in English, Literature, or a similar discipline. <\/p>\n
Master\u2019s degree preferred. <\/p>\n
Relevant certification or license may be required. <\/p>\n
A completed apprenticeship or teaching experience is recommended. <\/p>\n
A strong interest in literature and language. <\/p>\n
Compassion, understanding, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. <\/p>\n
The ability to multitask in a high-stress environment. <\/p>\n
Resilience and the ability to work with others. <\/p>\n
Previous experience as an English teacher <\/p>\n
Knowledge of various teaching methods <\/p>\n
