Description: The abundance of plastics in the environment has become a problem in all parts of the world. Plastics persistence under various conditions makes plastics a problem, because it does hardly disappear in the environment once it has arrived there. In a two-year project we aim to investigate the fate of plastics and micro-plastics in the relevant aqueous and terrestrial environmental compartments in Oman. Pathways will be explored, its release into the environment, its transformation and degradation and its final accumulation in terrestrial and marine sediments. The project aims at improving the scientific background for analysing and assessing the plastic problem, with a special focus on research gaps. Another objective is to enhance the awareness of the students to the plastic problem, which will also reach the non-academic parts of the Omani society.
The tasks of the research assistant will be:

–\tProject coordination and supervision of student work
–\tPublication of results in scientific journals
