Project Officer – Climate-Smart Agriculture

About the Organization:

Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is a specialized organization in development cooperation and humanitarian response. We are currently seeking a result-oriented and innovative Project Officer to contribute to our 20 Dunums for Change (20D4C) project in Jordan.

About the Project:

The 20D4C project, funded by AFD and implemented by a consortium of four partners, aims to promote the economic empowerment of Jordanian small farmers and vulnerable Syrian and other workers in the agriculture sector. The project focuses on improving market linkages, climate-smart agricultural practices, income diversification, financial inclusion, and the reduction of child labor. By fostering change in behavior and systems, the project strives to achieve three outcomes: increased productivity and higher income for small farmers, access to safe and resilient livelihoods for vulnerable agriculture workers and farmers, and improved working conditions with reduced incidents of child labor.

Responsibilities:

• During the inception phase, support the project manager in implementing various studies and assessments planned for Irbid, Mafraq, and Amman.
• During the implementation phase, assist in the overall implementation of project activities related to climate-smart agriculture, climate-resilient herding practices, soil regeneration, and biodiversity preservation.
• Support project monitoring, results evaluation, and the vetting of project partners.
• Collaborate closely with the project team, employing solution-oriented approaches.
• Report to the Project Manager and ensure effective cooperation and coordination.

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, preferably in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable herding practices, soil conservation, or biodiversity preservation.
• Strong understanding of climate-smart agricultural practices, climate-resilient herding techniques, soil regeneration strategies, and biodiversity conservation principles.
• Experience in project planning, implementation, including managing budgets, timelines, and stakeholders effectively.
• Ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders such as farmers, herders, local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors.
• Experience in conducting research, analyzing data, and providing evidence-based advice for sustainable agriculture.
• Familiarity with the agricultural context of Jordan, ecological conditions, and climate change impacts in the country.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic environment, including travel to project sites as required.
• Team player with the ability to work independently and plan and implement work effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders.
• Strong skills in reporting, interpersonal communication, and intercultural competencies.
• Proficient in using ICT and Microsoft Office suite applications.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (oral and written).
