Public Health Assessment Assistant
REACH Yemen is seeking an Assessment Assistant to support our work focused on Public Health (including WASH, Food Security, Health and Nutrition) in Yemen. Under the supervision of the WASH Assessment Officer, the Assessment Assistant will provide support on matters related to assessments, monitoring, and general information management (IM). Tasks will include direct coordination and provision of support to Yemen data collection partners and facilitate communications with partners in Arabic. The Project officer is also expected to provide support on the design of several training materials, coordination of data collection, data cleaning and analysis, deliver high quality outputs, and translations. This support will be provided for several assessments and monitoring exercises.
Objectives
- Assist the WASH Team and PH unit in the different research cycles.
- Lead on translation of documents from English to Arabic and vice-versa.
- Contribute to basic data entry, cleaning and analysis.
- Lead on capacity building for the PH unit partners
Duties and Responsibilities
Research Planning & Context Monitoring
The PO will be responsible for supporting the Public Health team to develop research designs, contributing to identifying and implementing new research approaches and methodologies, including:
- Keeping aware of significant developments in the field of WASH, food security, health and nutrition within the Yemeni context, and staying informed of the programs and strategies of pertinent stakeholders
- Support in building the Public Health strategy and ensure that all research cycles are planned in line with this strategy, relevant research and project objectives and with IMPACT’s research cycle and other relevant guidelines.
Partner Communication and External Engagement
The PO will be responsible for direct communication and follow-up in Arabic with the data collection partners in Yemen.
- The PO will be responsible to coordinate with WASH Cluster to increase participation in the data collection exercises, engage with new partners, and develop relationships through external outreach and presentations to the Yemen WASH Cluster meetings.
- The PO will provide technical support to the Yemen WASH Cluster partners during and after data collection.
Design and Facilitation of Training
The Project Officer will facilitate the design and delivery of training, in Arabic, to the data collection partners.
- The PO will be responsible for supporting the development of training materials that are relevant and clear in Arabic, and that are appropriate for the context.
- The PO will be responsible for leading trainings with partners to ensure they have full understanding of the data collection and cleaning process.
- The PO will be responsible for efficient, simultaneous translation during trainings where required.
Data Entry, Cleaning and Analysis
Under the direction of the WASH Assessment Officer, the Project Officer will be supporting the data unit with the data entry, data cleaning and other basic data management using Excel, both in English and Arabic. Where required, the Project Officer will provide support to the WASH Assessment officer in conducting data analysis in Excel for use in outputs.
Output Production
Under the direction of the WASH Assessment Officer, the Project Officer will be responsible for supporting the production process of relevant outputs, including reports, factsheets, presentations, and dashboards using Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., InDesign).
Translation
As required, and with the supervision of the WASH Assessment Officer, the Project Officer will be responsible for translating relevant documents, questionnaires, trainings, datasets, emails, reports, outputs and other materials to ensure clear communication and dissemination with Arabic speaking partners.
Skills
- Academic experience: Excellent academic qualifications, including a degree in relevant discipline (international studies, development, humanitarian response, monitoring and evaluation, etc.)
- Years of work experience: At least 1-2 years of relevant working experience in humanitarian settings.
- Software skills: Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Language skills: Written and spoken fluency in English and Arabic required.
- Communication/reporting skills: Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting and coordination.
- Cross-cultural work environment: Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment requiring flexibility.
- Multi-tasking & organizational skills: Ability to multitask with tight deadlines, on numerous research cycles. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Level of independence: Proven ability to work independently.
Desirable
- Familiarity with WASH: Previous Knowledge and or work related to Public Health – including WASH, food security, health and/or nutrition.
- Software skills: Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (i.e., InDesign) is an advantage. Knowledge and experience in using KOBO is desired.
- Experience in geographical region: Past work experience in Yemen or Middle East is desired.
