Overall Purpose:
Working as an important member of a diverse team committed to serving the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the Senior Logistics Officer (SLO) supports many of the office activities of the program.
On a day-to-day basis, the SLO carries out a variety of functions required to ensure the office needs of the program are met and that all logistician activities are delivered efficiently, accurately, and on time. All activities are carried out in line with Medair policies and procedures and according to any applicable donor, GSO, or field guidelines.
Project Overview:
Medair’s programming in Jordan serves refugees and vulnerable Jordanians in addressing their health, social protection, and psychosocial support needs in rural and urban (non-camp) settings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Logistics
- Support the Logistics Manager with the development and realisation of the Jordan programme’s logistics vision and strategy.
- Serve as the logistics head of department and represent the logistics manager in all activities in times of absence.
- Assist the Logistics Manager in overseeing the country’s logistical operations: procurement, supply chain, contract management, stock, warehousing, and transport.
- Help in coordinating with program teams to update the procurement plan when needed to ensure any requirements for procurement support are identified, approved, and procured in a timely, well-documented, and cost-efficient manner.
- Contribute to sourcing new vendors for better quality and to negotiate for better prices.
- Help in rolling out the supply chain management software.
- Participate in the global logistics community groups.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with Medair guidelines and procedures and according to donor requirements, reinforcing the culture of honesty and transparency within the Medair Jordan office.
- Help the logistics manager to ensure that effective, efficient, and timely-manner logistics support is provided when needed.
- Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation against all logistical activities keeping Project Managers informed in the incident of overstock or shortages.
- Oversee frequent and thorough checks on the quality of equipment and supplies, ensuring that items are maintained in good condition and that Medair is receiving the best ‘value for money’ on items purchased. Conduct routine spot checks.
- Meet the logistics-related administrative requirements of Medair, donors, local legislation, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders, so that the logistical aspects of the program function efficiently, effectively, and with integrity.
- Ensure accurate and timely: stock reports, cost follow-up, LP management, audit prep, end of project/year reports.
Communication
- Provide training, advice, mentoring, and coaching as required to logistics staff.
- Maintain a transparent, honest, and supportive communication structure with colleagues within the support and project teams to ensure they are kept informed of applicable logistical activities and requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, local authorities, other NGOs, and any other stakeholders, representing Medair and ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
Staff management
- Manage and oversee logistics officers/assistants, including day-to-day management, development and training, objective setting, performance appraisals, etc.
- Mentor and develop Logistics Officers in their roles as managers as they work with the fleet and base teams.
- Plan and schedule logistics tasks subject to the goals and requirements of the project activities.
Administration
- Meet the logistics-related administrative requirements of Medair, donors, local legislation, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders, so that the logistical aspects of the program function efficiently, effectively, and with integrity.
- Ensure a clear and transparent paper trail is in place for all logistical transactions (e.g., purchase requests, waybills, stock control, asset tracking, etc.), that records are kept in an orderly and timely fashion, and that the filing (archive) system is in line with Medair and donor requirements.
- Contribute, as required, to the accurate and timely reporting of logistics activities e.g., through weekly and monthly reports.
- Support with other related tasks, as requested.

Vocational qualification
Essential: University degree in relevant background

- Master’s degree in relevant background
- Advanced certification in logistics or supply chain management
Work experience
Essential: At least 5 years of post-qualification professional experience
Desirable:
- 3 years of post-qualification professional experience in an NGO setting
- 2 years of management experience
Languages
