We are seeking to fill the position of GIS Data Analyst G5, based in the Emergency Operations Division of our Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The Emergencies Operations Division (EME) is responsible for enhancing the World Food Programme’s (WFP) preparedness and response capacity in emergencies, including early warning, preparedness planning, crisis support and information management. The Geospatial Support Unit within EME gathers data from different sources and updates geo-referenced information to ensure that WFP can create and use detailed maps including advanced spatial analyses for areas of WFP’s interest, especially in support of humanitarian emergencies. The Geospatial Support Unit is the data owner of the corporate master location data that is used for the Geographical Enterprise Foundational Service (GEFS), a collection of administrative areas, populated places and WFP points of interests that are used as a geographic reference for all WFP corporate information systems.
JOB PURPOSE
The GIS Data Assistant will report to GIS Developer lead and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, maintenance, and integration of the corporate geospatial master location data. The primary responsibility will be to update and validate the data using the latest sources and adhere to the approved UN standards for geospatial information. The selected incumbent will be involved in the following duties, including but not limited to: data gathering, analysis, and reporting in specific systems/software, extracting and verifying data accurately from different sources, contributing ideas for improvement, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to collect/share information as well respond to routine queries and provide technical support/guidance when necessary, verifying completeness/conformity of data/documentation submitted to identify discrepancy/missing information. The GIS Data Assistant will be expected to be a team player within a small team with the ability to produce timely, accurate, and organized work while demonstrating good attention to detail, proactiveness, client orientation, and communication skills.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive)

Maintenance of the EME geospatial database for administrative boundaries, cities, and points of interests that feeds into WFP’s GeoCore for Location Master Data.

Ensure the application of Quality/Control/Quality Assurance standards defined by WFP Data Governance Framework.

As part of the broader team, contribute to the process improvement mechanisms to update and improve EME Geospatial database with inputs from WFP Location Resolution Tool.

Liaise with WFP Country Offices (CO) and Regional Bureaux (RBx) focal points to ensure the most relevant data is integrated into EME geospatial database.

Provide support to other WFP EME geospatial data editing workflows that follows the standard operating procedures and data quality standards for the location master data.

Assist with geospatial data acquisition and geospatial data cleansing.

Assist with maintaining an inventory of organizational requirements, reports, and communication related to administrative boundaries in close coordination with relevant counterparts at the UN Secretariat SALB (Second Administrative Level Boundaries) methodologies.

Undertake missions in support of RBx and COs as needed.

Perform any other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC POST REQUIREMENTS (As required by the Hiring Manager)
Essential:
-
Experience in geospatial data management using ESRI technology including basic mapping and geospatial analysis.
-
Demonstrated experience in geospatial data editing using topology rules.
-
Experience monitoring, analyzing, and reporting data.
-
Good communication, database management, analytical, and attention to detail skills.
Desirable:
-
Knowledge of open-source GIS software (QGIS).
-
Knowledge and experience using ArcGIS online/enterprise.
-
Knowledge of the Arc GIS Pro suite, especially of data editing tools.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of secondary school education.
Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the relative business stream with experience.
Language: Working knowledge (proficiency/FAO level C) of English.
Knowledge & Skills:

Experience in geospatial information analysis data visualization, information management, information technology or related area is required.

Demonstrated experience in geospatial data editing using topology rules required.
