Job Purpose:

To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in planning and organizing nutrition activities, meetings, and briefings with Co-operating partners & stakeholders to identify and solve operational challenges.
  • Support in conducting field visits to project sites, assess needs, monitor food distribution, and ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Maintain records of nutrition program activities, extracting relevant information from reports and other documents.
  • Support the Nutrition Team Leader in coordinating with the Ministry of Health Development and providing updates on nutrition activities.
  • Support the Nutrition team in participating in national, regional & international meetings to discuss technical matters, share experiences, advocate for nutrition interventions, and explore collaboration opportunities with the Nutrition Cluster & Thematic working groups.
  • Coordinate with other teams to ensure SCOPE registration of beneficiaries & enrolment to nutrition activities.
  • Follow up with Co-operating partners on project proposals and agreements, maintaining a tracking system for the agreements.
  • Help evaluate Co-operating partner performance and implement improvement plans as needed.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with partners on project implementation, distribution, and adherence to guidelines.
  • Support in analyzing food and non-food item requirements for nutrition programs and ensure availability.
  • Collaborate with other teams for timely distribution planning and food inventory considerations.
  • Work closely with Co-operating Partners to submit, review, and verify nutrition reports and supporting documents on systems such as COMET & MODA.
  • Follow up on partners' timely submission of invoices for payment.
  • Assess progress and performance of nutrition activities, prepare progress reports, and contribute to the management report.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to other staff and partners involved in nutrition activities.

Do you meet the minimum role requirements?

  • Education: A post-secondary certificate or degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Nutrition Science, Public Health, or related field is desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 years progressive work in nutrition related programmes, project & activities implementation, public health/ food security/ nutrition related activities preferably in humanitarian context.

Operational experience supporting nutrition emergency responses in different contexts is an added advantage.

Experience in implementation of projects and activities with NGOs, UN agencies or with governmental institutions.

  • Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somalia language is a requirement.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Operational knowledge of nutrition in emergencies.
  • Good understanding of Somaliland context, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Ability to carry out data analysis, identify and rectify discrepancies in documents and online systems.
  • Ability to follow clear instructions and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work in multicultural settings and teams, and cope with a demanding working environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and use of Microsoft packages such as word, excel and Powerpoint are essential
