Admin Intern

The Recycling in Jordan Activity is a 5-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Chemonics International. The project seeks to increase commercial sector utilization of recycling services in Amman, utilizing a market systems approach. The Recycling in Jordan Activity will work with private recycling firms, the commercial sector, the Ministry of Environment (MoENV), and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to increase recycling through the following three objectives:

expand and improve private sector-led recycling services.

  1. generate greater demand for and utilization of recycling services within the Amman commercial sector; and
  2. increase local and national government support for solid waste management.

The Recycling in Jordan activity will increase the competitiveness of recycling and invigorate the circular economy using a market-based approach, strengthening market linkages, and improving the enabling environment. As the recycling sector becomes more competitive, the project will support it to capitalize on opportunities to boost the commercial sector’s use of recycling services.

General description:

The interns will be part of the Symbiosis Workshop Preparation Team for the Recycling in Jordan Activity. Their primary role will be to assist in the preparation and implementation of up to two waste exchange program/symbiosis workshops. The workshops aim to increase networking and linkages between companies for the exchange of waste materials, ultimately improving waste management practices and generating benefits for participating companies. In addition, the intern will be also part of the upcoming awareness and training sessions.

Roles and responsibilities:

The Intern is responsible for the following principal duties and responsibilities:

  1. Workshop Preparation/ onsite handouts:
    • Assist in disseminating handouts invites the targeted audience for the workshop.
    • Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure smooth facilitation of the workshop.
    • Help the team in setting up the workshop venue, arranging seating, and prepare necessary equipment.
    • Assist with registration and participant check-in during the workshop.
  2. Introductory/ Invitation Phone Calls:
    • Contact and invite factories to participate in the Symbiosis Workshop.
    • Provide information about the workshop, its objectives, and the benefits of participation during calls.
    • Answer any questions or concerns raised by the factories.
    • Maintain a record of communication and update the team on progress.
  3. Follow-Up/ Registration Support Calls:
    • Follow up with invited factories to confirm their participation.
    • Provide any additional information or clarification required.
    • Address any concerns or challenges faced by the factories.
    • Ensure accurate attendance counts for workshop planning purposes.
  4. Workshop Facilitation and Logistics:
    • Support the facilitators during the workshop sessions.
    • Help distribute handouts, materials, and resources to participants.
    • Manage participant queries, requests, and assistance during the workshop.
    • Assist with any logistical needs during the workshop.

Performance results to be achieved:

  • Successful outreach and invitation of factories to participate in the workshop.
  • High confirmation rate of factory participation through effective follow-up calls.
  • Smooth facilitation of the workshop, ensuring participant satisfaction and engagement.
  • Effective support provided to workshop facilitators and participants.
  • Accurate record-keeping of communication, attendance, and feedback.
  • Adherence to the Activity guidelines and maintenance of up-to-date records utilizing the provided resources.

Applicant eligibility:

The intern shall have the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this consultancy assignment:

  • University Degree in a relevant field (business administration, marketing, engineering).
  • Knowledge of managing the organization's front desk.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Language proficiency in Arabic and English.

Essential skills, abilities and knowledge:

  • Computer skills include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Using Internet browsers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Positive/can-do attitude.
  • Eager to learn.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
