The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Supply Chain Division (SCO), with over 5000 trucks, 50 ships and close to 100 planes on the move every single day in over 120 countries and territories, together with its partners, operates a global network to deliver life-saving food assistance to the most hard-to reach places.

JOB PURPOSE

The Supply Chain Food Safety and Quality unit (SCOQ) implements WFP’s Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) management system which relies on independent verification of food and suppliers for purchased food and uses data collected through these business processes to assess and manage risks to beneficiaries. Over the last two years, an online platform has been implemented globally in WFP, managing process workflows and data collection for core FSQ processes. This platform continues to have a significant roadmap of development to deliver more value to WFP’s Supply Chain. Additionally, SCOQ needs to leverage opportunities for further digital transformation of business processes to support international, regional and local teams. Part of this journey includes the development of a data analysis capability to provide insights across the organization on food safety and quality risks, and to provide teams with the analysis tools and reports to work more effectively in their fields.
The role of the Data Analytics Consultant is to support WFP Headquarters (HQ), regional and local Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) teams to gather insights and useful operational information and metrics from the data captured by FSQ digital tools and other relevant data sources. This requires understanding the business needs in terms of metrics, insights and analysis and then composing dashboards, reports and analysis tools to meet these requirements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

The Consultant will work with the FSQ Digital Products Manager and stakeholders to conduct the following responsibilities, from WFP HQ in Rome:

• Collaborate with unit and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive set of dashboards to provide FSQ teams with an overview of performance and operational metrics on food inspections, supplier audits, product tests and food safety incidents.
• Develop analytical tools and methodologies to help SCOQ to assess and quantify the risks affecting food purchasing and use of food suppliers across the WFP supply chain – incorporating data from different business processes (mentioned above).
• Support preparation of other strategic and operational analyses as necessary.
• Support the overall development and application of FSQ analysis tools and methodologies to ensure long term sustainability the unit’s analytical capabilities.
• Work collaboratively with SCOQ and Procurement stakeholders to understand the quality and integrity of data collected by digital tools across FSQ processes, and support initiatives to identify and rectify errors.
• Collaborate with Regional Bureaus and Country Offices to understand their context-specific analysis needs and support them to gain the insight required to work effectively in their areas by providing tools and analysis as required.
• Work with the Digital Products team within SCOQ to define and agree an implementation roadmap for analyses and analytical tools, to ensure initiatives are prioritized effectively and delivered in a timely fashion.
• Work closely with the various WFP business units at both headquarters and field level as required, including travel to the field when deemed valuable.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Data Analytics, Data Science, Engineering or another related field.

Experience
• Prior experience within the supply chain industry or food production, covering data analytics, performance management or risk management; or demonstrable equivalent experience suitable for this role.
• Prior demonstrable project experience using data analytics tools (e.g MS PowerBI, Tableau, etc).

Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in MS Office (including Advanced use of Microsoft Excel).
• Excellent spoken and written command of the English language.
• Prior experience in Food Supply Chain industry including business analysis, process mapping, data extraction and analysis, and development of analytical and reporting tools within global organizations.
• Has strong analytical abilities (quantitative and qualitative), with the ability to think outside the box.
• Creativity and pragmatism
• Has good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to perform in a multi-functional and multi-cultural team.
• Has strong time management skills with the ability to plan and anticipate requirements, problems, and obstacles.
• Has a commitment to delivering high quality – with an ability to combine broad thinking with an attention to detail.
• Self-starter who can upskill themselves, attain knowledge of new areas and begin to deliver business value within short periods of time.
• Can preserve focus and commitment to generate content on short notice, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Language

• Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
