BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Food Security Information Network (FSIN) is a multi-partner initiative co-sponsored by FAO, IFPRI, FEWSNET, JRC, IPC and WFP. It’s objective is to serve as a neutral and independent forum for exchanging expertise, knowledge and best practices, and building consensus on methods, measurements and analysis of acute food insecurity. Its Secretariat is based in the Research, Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Division in WFP Headquarters in Rome, Italy. It is a neutral platform for The FSIN main activities consist of:
- Facilitating global and regional analytical products, including the annual Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) and its by-products and updates with 17 partner organisations;
- Supporting activities related to data and information gaps; and
- Facilitating support to regional or national food security information systems.
The FSIN Secretariat consists of three teams: analysts, communications and publications. This recruitment is for a graphic designer to support the publishing team on publications, communications and design elements for the website/platform.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The overall responsibility is to ensure the implementation and adherence to existing graphic design guidelines; layout of reports and publications; design of innovative products and design of elements for the website/platform:
- Ensure that all publications, reports and products are produced in line with FSIN requirements;
- Craft infographics, briefs and other products related to the GRFC package;
- Improve and edit photos, maps, charts and other graphic elements in the GRFC and related communication products;
- Produce layout and design of FSIN documents and reports and other communications material for printing and electronic distribution, including social media and website;
- Contribute to the ongoing design of the FSIN website as needed.
- Perform other tasks as required to support FSIN publications and communications.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- High-quality design for the GRFC Suite of Products in line with FSIN branding requirements and within specific deadlines;
- High-quality design for the FSIN publications and communications.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
A graduate or post-graduate university degree in Graphic Design, Art, or a related field, or at least five years of relevant experience.
Experience:
At least two years of experience providing graphic design support to technical publication.
Experience in producing graphics on technical subjects for a non-technical audience.
A proven record of developing clear and professional communication materials (brochures, newsletters, factsheets, reports, web pages, presentations, etc.)
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong lay-out skills;
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Applications (eg. InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and GIS
- Familiarity with website design and digital publication for websites and social media platforms;
- Knowledge of best practices for infographics and informative products design and publication;
- Ability to plan for and produce quality results in meeting deadlines.
- Attention to detail.
- Team player and ability to work in close coordination with editors and technical teams.
Languages:
Fluent in English, Intermediate level of French is an asset.
