CARE International established a presence in Jordan in 1948, created in the wake of the Palestinian refugee crisis. Over 70 years later, CARE has served the needs of the Palestinian, Iraqi, Somali, Sudanese, and now Syrian refugee communities. CARE’s scope of work has evolved from emergency response to long-term development programming, now encompassing an Urban Refugee Protection Program, the Azraq Camp Program, and the Sustainable Development Program. CARE in Jordan leads humanitarian protection, economic empowerment, and civic engagement interventions for women and girls from poor and vulnerable communities in the fight to overcome poverty, gender-based violence, and social injustice. Responsibilities and Tasks:
JOB RESPONSIBILITY 1: Environment scanning and analysis
– In coordination with the Head of Communications & Advocacy, and other CARE staff, establish a regular environment scanning and media monitoring analysis where key information/developments on a local/regional/international levels relevant to CARE’s mission in Jordan is compiled and shared on regular basis with CARE Jordan team.
– Support CARE Jordan management team to develop and strengthen employees’ engagement in communications and outreach activities

JOB RESPONSIBILITY 2: Communications
– Support the Head of Communications & Advocacy in the development of CARE Jordan’s communications strategy and alignment with programmatic objectives, donor visibility requirements, and key advocacy messages.
– Build and maintain relationships with social media influencers, journalists, bloggers that will help advance CARE Jordan’s work
– Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them.
– Work closely with CARE Jordan program teams to identify success stories as well as highlight key areas of concern and support efforts to “tell our story in a compelling manner” and maintain a library of success stories.
– Develop, write and edit communications materials, including press releases and social media content and promote through appropriate social channels
– Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos.
– Work with the Head of Communications & Advocacy to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns
– Manage CARE Jordan’s photo Library, publications library, tools available in the department (Camera, recorder…)
– Regularly share stories, photos and other resource ideas to CARE Jordan’s Social Media and Website where opportunities are identified, and/or as requested.
– Support production and public dissemination of key documents produced, as well as documentation of key events, commemoration days, etc.
– Support CARE Jordan’s compliance with global CARE branding and corporate identity as well as compliance with donor branding and visibility guidelines;
– Coordinate and lead on the development of annual newsletter, Social Media posts, CARE Jordan’s website materials or any other publications of CARE Jordan including distribution of annual reports and productions for internal and external distribution.
– Organize and plan to highlight important humanitarian days of relevance to CARE mission through development of stories, photo galleries, social media packages…etc. such as World Humanitarian Day, International Women’s Day, 16 Days of Activism against GBV, International Day of the Girl, and World Refugee Day to mention a few.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY 3: Advocacy
– Support CARE Jordan efforts in the development and implementation of an advocacy strategy to further CARE’s mission to advance humanitarian, development and protection needs of the most vulnerable in Jordan – including refugees and with emphasis on women and girls.
– Support the Head of Communications & Advocacy
– In coordinating with program teams, to develop key advocacy messages, campaigns, and documents in line with set advocacy objectives.
– Support CARE Jordan in mapping key stakeholders and contacts and integrate into CARE’s centralized contact list.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY 4: Brand Standards and CARE Visibility
– Ensure that all publications including pamphlets, leaflets, poster, flyers and all other CARE Jordan related printable material is unified and correct branding is applied
– Ensure digital content aligns with CARE’s brand's identity and message, and assist with campaigns as needed
– Ensure that all staff are following the CARE Jordan visibility SOPs and Update SOPs as needed
– Support in planning and oversight for VIP visitor engagement, (CEOs, celebrities, high profile media personalities), during field visits, ensuring appropriate planning (risk mitigation, pre-visits, meetings with external partners, key messages)
– Support the production of tools to help communicate CARE mission, vision and standards to beneficiaries / communities;
– Support program teams in preparation of program briefs, story development and dissemination, etc. to effectively tell stories from the field.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education / Required:
– B.A degree in Media, Communications, public relations or another related field

– Good interpersonal and communication skills
– Experience in NGO communications or fundraising, journalism (broadcast or print), or related field such as media/public relations, and strong understanding of social (online) media;
– Experience in communicating about gender-based violence.
– Experience in communicating about humanitarian aid
– Experience in communicating about women’s empowerment.
- Experience / Required:
– The position requires a minimum professional experience of 5-7 years’ Experience supporting and leading related programs.
– Experience of leading communication activities (including information management) in a challenging environment
– Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’.
– An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and priorities an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with limited support
– Ability to deliver high-quality photographs and stories from affected communities
– Experience in managing social media platform
– Strong influencing skills
– Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
– Commitment to the aims and values of CARE International in Jordan.

– Experience of creating media products such as press releases, OP-ED
– Multimedia and digital media skills
– Graphic design skills
– Excellent writing and summarizing skills

– Requires extensive written and verbal communication skills needed to motivate, convince, and/or change behavior or attitude of contacts
– Excellent writing, editing and communications skills in English required;
– People Skills: Ability to work independently and as a team player who demonstrates leadership and is able to support and train local and international staff and also able to work with disaster affected communities in a sensitive and participatory manner;
– Willingness to assume duties and responsibilities in all communications areas, as needed; pro-active and able to multi-task.
– Basic photography skills (able to compose a shot, interest in developing photography skills).
– Multimedia skills such as video production, photo management and graphic design.
– General finance, administration, information management and telecommunication skills and proficiency in information technology/ computer skills.
– Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, photo editing software, etc.
