Position Overview:
Action Against Hunger is a leading humanitarian agency working to combat hunger, malnutrition and its determinants in over 45 countries worldwide. 11 years into the Syrian crisis, Jordan remains host to 1.36 million Syrian refugees (83% of whom live among host communities), in addition to over 90,000 refugees largely from Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and Sudan.
Working in Jordan since 2013, Action Against Hunger has focused its response on WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods, and MHPSS programming for refugees and vulnerable Jordanians, both in camps and host communities. Action Against Hunger's 2020-25 country strategy aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable people to socio-economic and environmental challenges in Jordan with an emphasis on rural and peri-urban women and youth. As of 2023, Action Against Hunger has operations across Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa and Madaba with over 75 staff.
Action Against Hunger Jordan is seeking a qualified, motivated, and well-rounded Grants and Partnerships Manager to carry out core partnership and grant management functions. Based in Amman, the position will play a key role in ensuring effective overall grants and partnership management, including coordinating both donor and partner reporting, compliance checks, and partner cycle management. Reporting directly to the Grants and Partnerships Coordinator, the Grants and Partnerships Manager will be responsible to ensure that grant management functions within the organization proceed smoothly and relationship management with a varied set of partners .The position will also support the management of Action Against Hunger’s growing local partner portfolio, and play a central role in the implementation of the partnerships strategy.
Objective 1: GRANT MANAGEMENT
Provide technical and administrative support to grants management and contractual obligations, primarily through reporting and grants monitoring and support to business development efforts as needed
- Coordinate the development and finalisation of donor, governmental, and internal reports in respect of Action Against Hunger’s commitments to its donors (internal and external)
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of reports with good project cycle management practices and donor requirements and guidelines
- Organize regular grant review meetings where programmatic and operational aspects of different grants are tracked to ensure compliant and efficient grant implementation and proactive identification of risks to the senior management team
- Maintain and improve as necessary grants-related tools and archiving systems
- Support the Grants and Partnerships Coordinator in the proposal development process, especially on identification and coordination of prospective partnerships
Objective 2: PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
Provide robust partnership management, ensuring high-quality and compliant programming
- Provide end-to-end partnership life cycle management including stakeholder analysis, partner identification, due diligence, monitoring, reporting and closeout
- Organize partner opening, review (including annual review for multi-year projects), and closure meetings with all implementing partners
- Conduct regular follow-up of contract requirements and work plans, and identify and address any delays in a timely and effective manner
- Monitor programmatic and financial progress during implementation; advise on any need for project amendment or extension. Flag implementation, programmatic, financial, and other issues to partners and management for decision-making
- Ensure internal and external reporting is completed with all partners according to the donor and Action Against Hunger requirements is respected by all according to agreed deadlines. Write and consolidate reports, ensuring high-quality submissions.
- Promote partnership principles with partners, including identification of opportunities for joint strategic planning and supporting capacity-strengthening initiatives.
- Develop and/or amend, in coordination with partners, consortium and project-related documents, formalizing the operational and legal framework of the project
- Work with partners to ensure timely donor reporting and collection of case studies to showcase project successes
- Prepare documentation for any project modifications, including budget revisions, amendments, or extensions, and ensure such changes are made in close consultation with the consortium partners
- Facilitate the capturing and documentation of lessons learned across operational, managerial, and strategic levels
- Ensure that donors and internal rules and procedures are understood and respected by all partners
Objective 3: PARTNER IDENTIFICATION AND STRATEGY
Support and champion the development and implementation of Action Against Hunger Jordan’s partnerships strategy, including investments in partner capacity
- Co-chair the partnerships working group to support inter-departmental efforts toward effective partnership management.
- Lead stakeholder/partner mapping exercises for the identification of strategic partnerships in Action Against Hunger’s core sectoral and geographical priority areas.
- Promote a culture of long-term partnerships, supporting efforts to identify and resource areas of capacity strengthening and organizational development for current and partners
Objective 4: Fulfil general responsibilities and contribute to broader Action Against Hunger Jordan operational quality and consistency
- Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information at all times
- Commit to and comply with the organisation’s gender, age, and diversity principles and policies (working with people, communication)
- Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and / or through the management of teams (managing performance and development)
- Commit to comply with the organization principles, values, procedures and policies.
Skills
- Excellent English writing and reporting skills
- Experience working for or working directly with local non-profits
- Knowledge of donor compliance rules and regulations, including US and European donors
- Demonstrable emotional intelligence that enables having difficult conversations with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, organizational, prioritizing, and communication skills
- Proven capacity to communicate, coordinate and negotiate among diverse partners and stakeholders
- Ability to work well under programmatic pressure, problem-solve and build consensus
- Positive, team-first attitude
Education:
Bachelors in International Development, or related field. Advanced degree (Masters) preferred) but not required
Type of professional experience requested:
- At least 4 years’ relevant professional experience in the development or humanitarian sector with experience in partnership, grant or consortium management
- Knowledge of Action Against Hunger Jordan sectors of intervention would be an asset (livelihoods, social protection, WaSH, MHPSS)
Language level: Arabic (native) required / English (excellent) required
