Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Field Officer

Purpose:

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Field Officer implements Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities as defined in collaboration with the relevant coordinator at local and national level. S/he provides direct support to victims of armed conflict and/or other situations of violence and/or trains, supervises others to do so.

Functional general responsibilities:

  • Provides direct support to families of missing through support group sessions and delivers individual counselling sessions
  • Contributes to planning and organizing activities adapted to the needs of the families of missing persons.
  • Contributes to the management of MHPSS data relating to activities for families of missing.
  • Participates actively to the work stream part of Operational Priority 2 as part of the planning and reporting to the Work Stream focal point.
  • Along with the MHPSS Delegate, conducts pre and post assessments and supports the general evaluation process of activities.
  • Assesses existing local resources that provide support to the families of missing persons in Jordan.
  • Ensures the MHPSS support to members of families of the missing persons in a transversal manner in line with the accompaniment strategy
  • Implements MHPSS activities directly through individual consultations or group support activities via outreach activities.
  • Organizes referrals of beneficiaries and performs case follow-up when needed.
  • Plans, Organizes and Conducts training for the accompaniers of the implementing partners to provide MHPSS support to the families of missing persons, including referrals to available local resources
  • Complying with ICRC standards, sets up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools and ensures regular data collection during emergency.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with JRC, health authorities, academics, technical advisers from other organizations, etc. as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains direct links with MHPSS programs beneficiaries.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Mental Health & psychological team and/or MHPSS HPM, providing data and programs updates.
  • Interprets in Arabic and English languages in any situation with accuracy.
  • Translates all kinds of documents from Arabic to English and reverse upon request.
  • Performs various office duties on computer, including updating the ICRC MHPSS program beneficiaries’ database

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree in Clinical Psychology/ Counselling (Masters’ degree an asset) with a license to practice in Jordan.
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic and English languages, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Web browsers etc…).

Minimum required Knowledge & Experience

  • At least five years of professional experience with minimum three years of work experience in MHPSS programs in Jordan that includes working with vulnerable groups.
  • Humanitarian agency experience with FoMs is an asset.
  • Good knowledge and experience in group facilitation techniques.
  • Good knowledge about evaluation methods.
  • Clinical experience is an asset.
