The Program / Department / Team

MicroMentor is an initiative of Mercy Corps’ Innovations Team. MicroMentor connects
entrepreneurs and business mentors on an easy-to-use social platform that strives to overcome
geographical limitations and deliver business resources at scale to under-resourced communities
around the globe. We are the world's largest network of free business mentoring. Entrepreneurs
matched with a mentor have shown significant results in terms of improved job creation, business
survival, and revenue growth. Since inception, our community has grown to more than 170,000
entrepreneurs and 50,000 mentors across 180 countries. Our team is diverse, driven, hardworking
and highly committed to the mission of helping small businesses thrive through mentoring.
MicroMentor was launched in the MENA region in 2020, with a localized Arabic platform, and a
strong team based in Jordan to manage the initiative. MicroMentor in MENA is funded by Google,
Mastercard, and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as USAID
Iqlaa ع. Since inception, we have reached a community of more than 20,000 entrepreneurs, and
7,000 mentors.

General Position Summary

A key role in the program is a Mentoring Community Engagement Manager (Arabic and
English), who will drive a mentor's sense of community by creating and providing the right
tools, activities, and incentives to engage with MicroMentor. They also connect with
entrepreneurs and support them in finding the right mentor for their needs. We are looking for
a seasoned community engagement expert with strong entrepreneurial and mentorship
background, and a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Mentor and Entrepreneur Community Engagement (English and Arabic Communities)
● Orchestrate, and implement mentor and entrepreneur engagement strategy to ensure a
valuable user experience at MicroMentor.
● Engage directly with entrepreneurs and mentors in the platform, and support users to
connect to the right mentor or entrepreneur for them.
● Design the Mentor and Entrepreneur training for the global community to prepare users to
have the most successful mentoring experience at MicroMentor.
● Conduct onboarding meetings and info-sessions with mentors and entrepreneurs to
provide a warm welcome and assess any concerns or questions.
● Drive specific Mentors’ Task Forces integrated by engaged mentors willing to contribute to
improving MicroMentor, and ensure outcomes are achieved and mentors participating have
a meaningful experience.
● Coordinate with the Impact and Insights Team to ensure there is a continuous feedback
loop for findings and insights to drive adaptive management of the program and
technology, and so that users can feel the impact of their feedback.
● Gather lessons learned from their experience as mentor advisors and systemize these
learnings to share them with relevant stakeholders at the MicroMentor team.
● Build and leverage systems to intelligently understand and address users'
behaviors. They will be responsible for gathering insights, developing ideas, and
building new and innovative mentor and entrepreneur engagement strategies to
offer the greatest experience to our users.
● Conduct personal virtual meetings with mentors as needed to address any concerns they
have, gather feedback, and provide them with dedicated support.
● Ensure the MicroMentor community is treated with the highest level of professionalism and
follows MicroMentor principles and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
● Represent MicroMentor's brand and values with the mentor and entrepreneur community.
MENTOR RECRUITMENT
● Provide relevant feedback to the marketing team to ensure the recruiting of the right
mentors.
● Design the strategy to activate the entrepreneur community to ensure Mentor referrals to
other mentors, and entrepreneurs are invited to become mentors as well.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
● Following our mentoring culture, act as a mentor for their team.
● Act in accordance with MicroMentor’s Ethos and support team members growth across
the petals of MicroMentor’s Ethos.
● Planning and setting goals with its team contributes to MicroMentor's strategic
objectives.

Accountability

Reports Directly To: MicroMentor Project Leader in MENA
Works Directly With: MicroMentor Project Leader in MENA, Project assistant, Senior Marketing
officer, Director of Programs and Innovation, Global program officer, Product Manager, Technical
Program Manager, MicroMentor marketing team, MicroMentor customer service team,
MicroMentor I&I, MicroMentor end users, MicroMentor clients.
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability,
specifically to our program participants, community partners, and other stakeholders, and to
international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to
actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of
our field projects.

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills

● 5+ years of experience in creating/engaging communities.
● MBA or BA in business administration or 4+ years related work experience.
● Relevant experience as a Business Mentor in MicroMentor or other mentoring initiatives.
● Strong interest in the development sector, and in Mercy Corps mission and vision.
● Entrepreneurship spirit – Driven, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and with a “can-do”
attitude.
● Bilingual English/Arabic.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build trusting relationships
with peers and subordinates, and demonstrate emotional intelligence and empathy.
● Intercultural competencies, value of diversity, ability to manage the dynamics of
difference, acquire and institutionalize cultural knowledge, adapt to diversity and cultural
contexts, and be a thoughtful leader in a diverse globally sprawling organization.
● Flexible approach and an ability to operate effectively with uncertainty and change.
● Innovative, entrepreneur, and mentor success obsessed.
● Passion to drive impact at scale.

Success Factors

They will be passionate about community engagement, with an innovative mindset willing to
continuously experiment with new approaches. They must have the ability to think critically
and make good decisions that contribute to the community's success. They must have a
proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations. Awareness of and sensitivity to
multicultural and diverse audiences is required.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

This position is based in Amman, Jordan and it may include travel for team meetings and
occasionally to country offices across the agency, travel estimated up to 5% of the time. Travel may
be to insecure and/or austere locations. Housing for this role is in individual housing and staff will
have access to good medical services and the living situation is of a high standard.
Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when
deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to
conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies,
procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
