The Program / Department

The Promoting the Voice and Leadership of Women Activity (PVLW) is a five-year activity that will create transformational changes in gender relations at the family, community and national levels to enhance gender equality and advance women’s leadership in Jordan. This will be achieved through three interconnected and interdependent objectives: 1) strengthening the enabling environment and institutional capacity and addressing structural barriers for women to fully exercise their rights, express their agency and freely lead and participate in society without restrictions; 2) partnering with local stakeholders to counter prevailing prohibitive social norms that perpetuate gender inequality, undermine women’s agency to exercise their rights, and prevent transformative change in gender relations; and 3) advancing the inclusive and transparent leadership and decision-making participation of girls and women. The Activity is implemented by a consortium of partners led by Mercy Corps and including Al Jidara, Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), Plan International, and Solidarity is Global Institute (SIGI).

The Position

The Research and Analytics (R&A) Coordinator, as a member of the Activity Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team, will be responsible for researching, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, and using the data to guide the activity’s decision-making. The R&A Coordinator will manage the daily operations of multiple research projects ensuring that all aspects of project protocol are adhered to. He/she will also apply specialized knowledge to initiate, design, develop, coordinate, and manage major research projects across multiple efforts. He/she will work with the MEL Manager to examine and validate the accuracy of the data to ensure that it produces meaningful information. Depending on the discovered research needs of the activity, he/she may also support and manage grants to institutions to perform additional research projects related to the activity.

Essential Responsibilities

RESEARCH

  • Lead the development and implementation of the PVLW Activity learning plan, with the support of the MEL Manager, Chief of Party (CoP) and technical leads.
  • Prioritize various research initiatives based on the learning plan, programmatic priorities and work plans.
  • Lead research project implementation by researching, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and determining how to use the findings to guide programmatic decision-making.
  • Communicate outcomes of research to various stakeholders, including the PVLW CoP and technical leads, the PVLW MEL Team and focal points, PVLW partners and stakeholders, and USAID.
  • Facilitate an inclusive process with partners and stakeholders. This includes planning and co-leading specific workshops and events, as well as day-to-day correspondence and check-ins.
  • Collaborate with program and MEL teams and consortium focal points to ensure the timeliness and quality of the research implementation including providing oversight/quality assurance of primary data collection as requested.

COLLABORATION, LEARNING, AND ADAPTATION (CLA)

  • Support the MEL team in research findings interpretation, dissemination, and application within and outside the Activity.
  • Work with the Communications Team and Secretariat Liaison to ensure broad external dissemination of research findings. Work with Mercy Corps Global Technical Support Unit to ensure broad internal dissemination of research findings and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Gender Lead to ensure that research processes and approaches are gender-sensitive. Ensure data collection tools and data collection teams are inclusive.

RESEARCH COMMUNICATION AND DISSEMINATION

  • Support in the drafting of research reports that incorporates solicited review and feedback from PVLW team members and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to research briefs and/or other accessible summaries of studies.
  • Support dissemination and uptake of research results among target audiences, including through organizing events and presentations.
  • Support with donor reporting related to research activities within PVLW.

GRANTS FUND MANAGEMENT

  • Based on the research plans and needs of the Activity, compose Requests for Applications (RFAs) for research firms to perform research on specific topics for the Activity.
  • Manage the selection process of any research-based grants, including evaluating applications and selecting final grant recipients.
  • Work with research grantees to ensure they have the resources needed to perform the research grants; provide capacity strengthening support (in partnership with PVLW Capacity Building Team) to support research grantees.
  • Review and approve any deliverables provided by grantees.

Reports Directly To: MEL Manager, PVLW Activity

Works Directly With: PVLW MEL team and focal points, PVLW Team Leads, Secretariat Liaison, PVLW COP, Mercy Corps Jordan Program Performance and Quality (PaQ) Director, Mercy Corps Global and Jordan MEL Teams, Mercy Corps Global Technical Support Unit, PVLW Capacity Building Team, and Communications Team

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Masters degree in a quantitative field with experience in statistics or quantitative analysis (e.g. computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, economics). In lieu of a Masters degree, a Bachelors degree plus an additional three years of relevant experience in addition to what is listed below.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience preferably with a broad range of quantitative and qualitative research methods, design, and analysis. Experience in gender equality projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies required. Significant experience with different study designs and processes, for example, randomized control trials, sampling strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate research findings, both in summarized visuals and in concise writing.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively gather and summarize large amounts of information from various sources.
  • Extremely strong writing skills, including past experience generating substantive written products (e.g. long-form reports, policy briefs, syntheses, etc.) excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Arabic and English.
