PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Mercy Corps and Axiom International will implement a 24 month programme “Inclusive Security and Resilient Youth Project – ISRY,'' a community-based development programme supporting at-risk youth in Jordan between the ages of 15 to 30. ISRY will adopt a positive youth development approach to psychosocial support interventions with the aim of: promoting learning; increasing stability through co-existence and inclusive security; and building the psychosocial resiliency of youth and their families. Mercy Corps, in close coordination with Axiom, will create connections between youth and Public Security actors through engagement in Nature based activities and community-based activities.

In close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Ministry of Social Development, the programme will identify three local community based organizations- CBOs in the north, center and south of Jordan – to establish Community Action Hubs that provide youth with a safe space to improve social stability and ultimately make youth and their communities more resilient. Additionally, the program will seek to strengthen the CBOs’institutional capacities to sustain long-term impact

The project will place additional focus on the national level to strengthen the role of women and youth representation in the Youth Peace and Security – YPS 2250 – coalition in Jordan, through close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and other stakeholders.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The MHPSS Senior Training Officer will provide support to the implementation of “Nubader: Inclusive Security and Resilient Youth Project- ISRY '' Project. The MHPSS Senior Training Officer will support the development of all related training materials and community activities with parents and ensure developing the Parenting Program according to the project milestones, through guiding the curriculum design and development of training tools as well as delivery of the courses and capacity building processes using internal and external resources that includes but not limited to the youth activities and facilitating the exchange of expertise with local Community Action Hubs-CAH partners including community personnel as well as localgovernmental actors. S/he will assist the MHPSS Specialist and Capacity Building Team Leader in monitoring and evaluating the activities, providing follow up, and preparing continuous updates. The MHPSS Senior Training Officer will also spend several days a week in the field supporting the field teams in ensuring that time management involves developing training material and preparing for trainings and following up on implementation provided to CBO partners personnel as well as the broader community.

HeShe will report directly to the MHPSS Specialist and Capacity Building Team Leader.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONAL:

1.Provide technical support throughout the project’s phases (situation analysis, planning, implementation evaluation, and exist) with special focus on the development and implementation of the project’s capacity building activities in close coordination with different projects’ functions.

2.Contribute to the writing and submission of regular reports (monthly and quarterly) to the supervisor and the management in MC.

3.conduct the capacity building of Nubader training activities and ensure youth session plans is in place and monitored, and provide day to day coaching and mentoring to the community personnel and youth participants.

4.Provide capacity building and knowledge sharing to the Nubader team members in MC and partner CAHs personnel to ensure the delivery of youth activities in communities/CAHs that adhere to project overall goals.

5.Support other Nubader functions in the delivery of the training plans provided to community personnel and other local governmental actors who are directly working or contributing to the projects’ objectives.

6.Contribute to the project’s assessments and research milestones through the designing and implementation process.

7.Promote community-based projects/ initiatives and activities specific to the needs of youth, and the community at large such as group and community-oriented awareness campaigns, initiatives, and national policies working on the youth sectors in Jordan specifically the Youth, Peace and Security 2250 coalition.

8.Conduct regular monthly and quarterly meetings with all staff to go through MHPSS and Protection activities’ progress, identify key challenges, and address other issues.

9.Perform other duties as assigned in the implementation of the project activities.

10.Supervise the community personnel’ performance through structured one on one meetings, and weekly learning sessions in coordination with MC Nubader Training Coordinator and MHPSS, Protection and Capacity Building Team Leader.

TRAINING AND CONTENT DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT:

11. Support in developing knowledge and skills of the MHPSS and Protection teams to support delivery of caregivers’ program and the mentorship model.

12.Contribute and provide technical input during the design of the projects’ activities in close coordination with all Nubader project’s functions.

13.Develop the capacity building plan of the project and implement refresher workshops and learning circles to support community personnel in close coordination with the Training Coordinator, as well as develop and adapt strategies to help them address challenges and behaviors that are faced during the implementation.

14.Contribute to the design the foundation training materials, including ensuring parenting and protection aspects are in place, and conduct direct facilitation for all Nubader projects’ partners.

15.Ensure quality of participant programming and training delivery through overseeing content development through research and readings among latest articles and practices in the MHPSS and youth work fields, delivery and scheduling and provide necessary support.

16.Support quality assurance through review results of training programme evaluations, attendance and training data, and recommend necessary actions to maintain quality of the project’s activities in close coordination with all Nubader projects’ functions.

PROTECTION MAPPING AND NETWORKING:

●Contribute to the development and adjustment of the project protection and referral strategy while ensuring that those are in line with internal MC processes and with the National SOPs for protection and referral

● Support in compiling and updating the MHPSS service providers and other services relevant to host communities in target regions. Create a document listing relevant services and resources. Facilitate dissemination of information about existing services and support to strengthen referral networks.

● Contribute to updating the MHPSS and Protection SOPs of the project so that they integrate and align with the national SOPS.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Project management team, field team, Psychologist, Senior training Coordinator and the training team, M&E team, Nature Club team, Partner Organizations, CAH personnel and Sub-grantees.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Psychology, or Social Work or other related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in working in developing and delivering Psychosocial support programmes specific to working with youth and adolescents.
  • Experience in working with training Community members and community based organizations.
  • Experience in project implementation and support of emergency, youth, education programs
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Fluent in both Arabic and good command in English
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to Amman/northern Jordan
