ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
These jobs are found in Adama Sub-Offices (SOs). Job holders report to the Administration Officer, Logistics Officer or the designate, and drive light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles or any other type of land transport. They may also be assigned to operate speed boats or other types of watercrafts. The job may involve basic administrative assistance in the office or stores.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
1. Maintain that the Forklift is always clean and in a good condition, washing and cleaning should be scheduled properly so as not to interfere with work schedule.
2. Make the Fleet Manager aware if the mileage on the forklift is getting close to Preventative Maintenance inspection mileage, maintenance schedules will be arranged by the fleet manager.
3. Responsible for the pre-trip and post-trip inspections, to complete the documentation and report immediately any problems/issues with the Forklift
4. Be aware of fuel-efficient driving and will not idle the forklift unnecessarily,
5. Required to drive the forklift safely, Reckless and careless driving could constitute sufficient grounds for termination.
6. In the event he/she has to leave the Forklift unattended for any period, it must be locked and parked in a safe and secure location When parked overnight it must be parked in its allotted WFP parking space.
7. It is the sole responsibility of the WFP forklift operator to ensure his/her driving licence is always valid and has not reached the expiry date.
8. Do not operate the Forklift under the influence of any substance that may impair your ability to operate the forklift, including, alcohol, drugs, narcotics, and medicines.
9. Fuelling and maintenance of WFP Forklift is the responsibility of WFP, without authorisation the operator should never pay for fuel and maintenance as this will be difficult to reimburse later.
10. Acquaint him/herself with all rules and regulations governing the use of WFP Forklift
11. Do not operate the Forklift knowing that your ability to do so safely has been impaired, affected, or influenced by illness, fatigue, or injury.
12. If there are any persons injured, call for medical aid and take all necessary action to render the accident site safe, including rendering first aid as he/she is qualified.
13. Report the accident as soon as possible to the officer in charge and the applicable security official.
14. Provide support to logistics operations and activities, following standard processes and facilitating, directly or indirectly, the effective delivery of NFIs.
15. Support timely ordering and delivery of supplies to authorised partners and destinations
16. Moving controls, devices, and levers to drive forklifts to transfer Non-food items between unloading, loading, and storage areas.
17. Organizing and securing stored pallets, Loading or unloading items manually, off or on to pallets, platforms, skids, or lifting devises.
18. Performing routine post and pre inspections to ensure suitable working nature or forklift equipment.
19. Reporting to Manager regarding any damage to racks, faulty equipment, or any other safety hazards.
20. Consulting, working, and coordinating with supervisors, managers, regarding unloading and loading operations.
21. Completing any forklift operator training provided. Perform general clean-up tasks to keep work area clean
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal forklift operating training with a valid forklift operator Certification and valid driving license to operate assigned forklift following local rules and regulations .
Experience: Two years or more years of work experience as a forklift operator, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe record.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the English and local languages(Oromifa) is highly desired.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Knowledge of forklift operator rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, and security issues.
• Knowledge of the forklift loading capacity and other parameters.
• Knowledge of operating rules and regulations whichever applicable.
• Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
• Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
• Ability to assess forklift for mechanical fitness and skills in minor repairs.
• Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact. Language: Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
