ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
This job is found in WFP Yemen Country Offices based in Aden Area Office and generally report to the Head of Programme Delivery Unit or designate.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Working with Head of PDU and Country Director, with functional supervision from the Regional Communications Officer, the Communications Officer/Consultant is responsible to ensure that the Yemen communications activities serve WFP needs in the Country Office, taking into consideration the overall regional communications plan and WFP's corporate communications goals. The Communications Officer/ consultant will implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritizing effectively.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Design and Implement country specific communication strategies and work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP in Yemen, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.
- Provide technical support and creative guidance to the Yemen Country Office Communications team to ensure all media strategies are in place.
- Develop coherent messaging on WFP’s response in Yemen and ensure consistent use of it among relevant staff and stakeholders in collaboration with the Regional Bureau Communications team in Cairo and the Communications division in Rome.
- Maintain and organize up-to-date internal and external information on WFP Yemen's programmatic activities to be able to produce relevant communications at all times.
- Contribute to communications through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s).
- Facilitate and coordinate information requests and media coverage of activities as required
- Manage the preparation and updates of communications products such as: monthly newsletters, social media, multi-media products and other publications, fact sheets, articles, studies and reports
- Creates content for press releases, online articles, prepare and publish newsletters and other literature.
- Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications.
- Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
- Generate donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages. Support the organization of donor relations activities, including field missions, donor visibility activities, etc.
- Monitor and analyses traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
- Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
- Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provide advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact. For example, the design and review of training materials.
- Contribute to the development of speeches, presentations and other advocacy and communication materials when needed.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
You have:
- Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, or other related fields, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience:
You have:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in communication, media, journalism, public information, or similar disciplines.
Language:
You have,
- International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- This position is required for a period of consecutive 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to the operational needs and availability of funding in Yemen Country Office.
- Consultancy contracts will be subject to a mandatory break in service after a period of service of 11 continuous months.
- WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with WFP HR Manual.
- The position is based in Aden, Yemen and the selected candidate will be expected to relocate.
