Data Engineer
We will count on you to:
Own the build-out and implementation of data solutions to power a risk management and reinsurance firm. Quickly and efficiently enhance the acquisition, storage, analysis, fidelity, and monetization of massive amounts of client, internal, and third-party data across the organization. As a member of the Data Strategy group, work with fellow data scientists, product managers, business analysts, and stakeholders from other internal groups to design and improve data-centric projects with the dual mandate of (1) increasing the efficiency of the data collection and analysis process across Guy Carpenter (GC) and (2) driving the monetization of data via newly designed and existing products for GC's reinsurance clients. Lead facilitator on innovative initiatives. Own the design, development, and delivery of projects, which will require direct reporting to senior-level management in both business and technical groups. Specific duties include: Develop, implement, and deploy custom data pipelines powering machine learning algorithms, insights generation, client benchmarking tools, business intelligence dashboards, reporting and new data products Innovate new ways to leverage enormous amounts of various datasets to drive revenues via the development of new products with the Data Strategy team, as well as the enhanced delivery of existing products Consume data from a variety of sources (relational databases, APIs, NetApp and other cloud storage, FTPs) and formats (Excel, CSV, XML, parquet, unstructured) Construct and maintain data pipelines between GC's databases, and other sources, with the data lake utilizing modern ETL frameworks Own the role of data steward for a variety of high-value datasets and implement innovative quality assurance practices Establish and implement data security and privacy standards to ensure internal and regulatory compliance Establish and implement metadata management standards and capabilities, including lineage mapping Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal clients as an engineering representative for data strategy Enforce strong development standards across the team through code reviews, unit testing, and monitoring Perform basic data analysis within Jupyter Notebooks to validate the fulfillment of requirements for data pipelines Evangelize data strategy techniques and best practices throughout global strategic advisory Keep up-to-date on the latest trends and innovation in data technology and how these trends apply to GC's business and data strategy Productionize machine learning models to meet business needs.
What you need to have:
Must have a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Applied Urban Science and Informatics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the position offered, or as a Statistician, Data Engineer Fellow, Graduate Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or a related position. In meeting the degree requirement, employer will accept a Master's degree in one of the enumerated fields or a related field in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Employer will accept pre- or post-Master's degree experience. Must have three (3) years of experience with all of the following: Integrating data from semi-structured and unstructured sources Communicating technical concepts to non-technical audience Consuming data from a variety of sources including relational databases, APIs, NetAppand other cloud storage services, and FTPs, and formats including Excel,CSV, XML, parquet, and unstructured Working with data management Working with numerical and statistical models, including regression modeling Using programming skills to build data pipelines and dynamic systems Developing data ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) design, implementation, and maintenance and working with data APIs. Must also have two (2) years of experience: Working with Python.
