Waste Management Advisor
The “Extended Producers Responsibility” (EPR) project in Jordan is seeking a “Waste Management Advisor” for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- Masters/MSc or equivalent in environmental management, waste management, civil engineering, or related fields
- At least 7 years of work experience in relevant field.
- At least 4 years of professional experience in project management.
- At least 3 years of professional experience working in waste management, recycling or environmental management.
- Basic knowledge on EPR system in Jordan.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to find solutions.
Summary of the scope of the role
The Waste Management Advisor will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of selected activities that are initiated and ongoing within the “Extended Producers Responsibility” (EPR) project and will follow up on the progress and the optimization of the results, this includes the integration and deployment of the EPR registration system by the selected IT company into the Ministry of Environment servers and Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) unit, in addition to ensuring the functionality and use of the “Sort it right” mobile application through coordination with the Solid Waste Management in Jordan (SoWas) project team members and Greater Amman Municipality. The Waste Management Technical Advisor will also be a member of the Global Communication exchange group and will develop and update any communications materials agreed with the group in addition to plan and implement awareness-raising activities in coordination with the EPR team members and the Ministry of Environment. He/She will be able to provide support and guidance to the PRO unit staff at the Ministry of Environment and respond to the partner organization request that are within the project’s interest and important for its success. Additionally, the Advisor will support the EPR team to implement different activities successfully and efficiently.
Core tasks
In your role, you are responsible for the technical, substantive, and organizational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3, and ensuring the quality of the commission’s outcomes.
In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners, and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarizing themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
Main activities
- Provide guidance and support to the Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) staff unit at the Ministry of Environment (MoEnv) in conducting their daily activities.
- Work closely with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) consultants in developing concepts and proposals for the MoEnv including the EPR registration process for private companies and calculation of EPR fees.
- Become a member of the Global Communication exchange group and take responsibility of the communications and awareness raising activities for EPR Jordan.
- Following up on the implementation and integration of the EPR registration system with the service provider.
- Support in the preparation and join workshops, trainings, meetings, study trips as needed.
- Support in updating progress reports requested by Export Initiative (EXI) team for EPR Jordan.
- Work closely with EPR team members to coordinate EPR community of practice sessions.
- Follow up on the progress of implementation of the “Sort it Right” mobile application with the EPR consultants.
- Work closely with the Solid Waste Management Jordan (SoWas) project team members to implement a pilot project for the “Sort it Right” Application.
- Exchange information and communicate with EXI global project members through the knowledge hub platform.
- Monitor the progress of the project and the implementation of activities against the project indicators.
- Fill project cards and templates requested by the MoEnv for the EPR project.
- Develop Terms of Reference for any required services or goods for the project.
- Initiate any tendering process and evaluate the technical offers.
- Provide translation for selected documents and texts as needed.
