ABOUT US: The Syrian American Medical Society Foundation (SAMS) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, non-religious medical relief organization, with a mission to provide lifesaving healthcare services and to revitalize health systems for underprivileged Syrian refugees, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable host community members in zones of conflict and displacement. This is done by implementing an integrated model of essential services that emphasize priority needs, including the delivery of medical education, training, and financial support to physicians and other healthcare workers in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, and Iraq. Along with the provision of healthcare services and medical training, the SAMS Foundation also implements mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs, as well as protection against gender-based violence (GBV).

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key relationships:

HQ, Programs, Procurements, HR, Social Security, Income Tax, Internal & External Auditors, Bank.

General objective of the position: This position will be based in Amman. A Finance Officer is responsible for all financial aspects of the society. The Finance Officer manages the budget, prepare financial reports, and ensure that all financial transactions are conducted legally and ethically.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Prepare accounting entries according to the kind of transaction to prepare GL account.
  2. Book the month end closing entries on monthly basis and ensure that all transactions has been properly booked according to SAMS policy and procedures.
  3. Manage petty cash transactions.
  4. Reconcile Balance sheet accounts periodically.
  5. Perform monthly bank reconciliation and follow up on the reconcile items.
  6. Review of cash and bank books after monthly closing to ensure that expense vouchers together with the relevant supporting documents are attached to support payments.
  7. Review calculation of monthly payroll, income taxes, social security, medical insurance and other allowances to ensure accuracy.
  8. Prepare salary allocations entries based on the monthly payroll.
  9. Monitor closely bank balance during the month and prepare the cash flow report for the current month as well as spending plan for the following month.
  10. Maintain the Journal entries and ensure that supporting documents are attached to all entries to keep track of the numbering.
  11. Prepare the prepaid schedule and book the monthly expense.
  12. Assist in the preparation of monthly and donor financial reports due to SAMS and donors and update of reports templates Including the monthly BVA.
  13. Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeline of invoice entry in accordance with SAMS policies and procedures
  14. Review invoices, receipts and all supporting documents to ensure that all processes are according to SAMS policy and procedures before issuing the payment.
  15. Keep and maintain an archive of all financial transactions in accordance with the policy of SAMS.
  16. Carry out any other tasks as assigned by the finance manager or senior finance officer at SAMS
  17. Act as Social Security focal point.

THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or a similar degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with international non–governmental organizations in an accounting/finance.
  • Complete familiarity with accounting software preferably Deltak Cost Point 8.

Competencies:

  • Excellent written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and team management.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Languages

  • Fluency written and spoken in Arabic.
  • Fluency written and spoken English.

CONTRACT CONDITIONS

The salary will be defined regarding the SAMS Jordan Office salary scale on-going.
