Job Summary

The prevention officer will mainly manage and supervise the protection program activities designed to build protective factors, and prevent risk factors for child abuse within the communities that will be implemented mainly through the CPCC.

The prevention officer will formally oversee and guide the work of the CCs; compensation for communications and transportation; enhanced capacity building; and formal guidance for the work of CC members.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for forming and setting up the child protection community committees (CPCCs) in IMC CP locations in coordination with the CP team.
  • Provide supervision, support, and guidance to the CPCCs to support and sustain community-led action around issues related to CP.
  • Ensure ongoing capacity building for the CPCC members to develop their knowledge on relevant CP topics and services.
  • Contribute to developing, modifying, and updating tools and forms that support and facilitate the implementation of CP prevention activities
  • Contribute to IMC awareness activities and initiatives and effectively leveraging social media and various digital channels and campaigns on CP issues
  • Lead on the prevention awareness activities, including developing a clear plan for the prevention activities in each location.
  • Develop clear pathways for appropriate referral of CP cases identified by CPCCs to IMC’s CP case management team and ensure the effective application of these pathways among the CPCC members
  • Oversee the implementation of the CP prevention component, ensuring that the project activities are conducted in line with global and IMCCP minimum standards.
  • Arrange and collaborate with CPCCs to plan, implement, and monitor he proposed activities
  • Conduct a safety audit for each site, liaising with CPCCs.
  • Coordinate with other NGO’s, agencies, and officials, to ensure IMC’s awareness on child protection issues takes place in collaboration with other actors in urban areas.
  • Develop and sustain positive relationships with a range of people, the community, local groups and organizations, and local authorities, and ensure their involvement in the prevention activities.
  • Contribute to the CPCCs monthly meetings
  • Coordinate with the other IMC department including finance, logistics, HR/admin, communication, and Media assistant in order to support conducting the prevention activities and initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management staff as required; contribute to donor reports and internal IMC reports as required.
  • Adhere to IMC Code of Conduct and internationally accepted humanitarian principles.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
  • Typically, 3 years of experience in the child protection field
  • Experience in protection raising awareness and psychosocial support is a plus.
