We are currently seeking to fill an intern position for a candidate with an academic background and qualification in Learning and Development, within our Career Management Branch of the Human Resources Division.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CAREER MANAGEMENT BRANCH

Our team is part of the Career Management Branch (HRMTC) within the Human Resources Division, and its main activity is focused on providing professional learning and development and career management services to WFP’s core business Functions and our Country Offices. Our team is leading the development of a Critical Skills Academy which aims to build capacity in a number of cross-cutting skills that WFP have determined as important for the future of delivery of our work to the people we serve -aligned to our workforce planning. The academy focuses on building engaging and impactful learning experiences based on best practice learning design principles. The internship role will primarily support this initiative. Additionally, the team manages WFP’s global mentoring programme and an online Career Resource Centre providing tools, resources and events available to all employees globally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Learning and Development Specialist, the candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Support the development of a number of blended learning programmes within WFP’s Critical Skills Academy as a core member of the team.
  • Conduct research and curate relevant learning resources and online assets, tools, checklists and guides that will form part of the learning experience.
  • Participate in the review of the high level and detailed design of the programmes and provide input and recommendations from the perspective of both a learner and their own instructional design and learning and development knowledge and expertise.
  • Assist in building and assembling the blended learning programme pathways in WFP’s learning management system, following internal training and upskilling within the team.
  • Assist in the management and administration of cohorts of participants for each of the programmes – including coordination of nominations for participants, scheduling, programme communications and basic technical support for the smooth running of virtual classroom events.
  • Actively share their own knowledge and practices from recent studies and experience to ensure the team maintains a reputation for best practice learning and development solutions.
  • Provide support as needed to the Global Mentoring Programme and Career resource centre.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate or graduated studies completed, or recently graduated (within the past six months) with a degree in Learning and Development, Instructional Design, Adult learning and Pedagogy, Learning Technology or closely related fields
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months
  • Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of a second UN language would be an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, MS Teams)

DESIRED ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Experience working with learning management systems for the delivery of blended learning programmes
  • Knowledge and background in design or delivery of online virtual facilitator led sessions
  • Knowledge and background on Instructional Design is an advantage

REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS/WFP COMPETENCIES

  • Self-starter – ability to work independently with drive and initiative, seeking appropriate guidance as required
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs
  • A strong teamwork orientation and willing to contribute ideas for best team outcomes
  • Good communication skills, both orally and writing
  • Aptitude in working with technology systems
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure, self-organise and to deliver on deadlines
  • Show proactivity in finding best design approach solutions to complex learning and communication requirements
  • Ability to assimilate and incorporate feedback

WORKING LANGUAGES

Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.

SUPERVISION (LEVEL/METHODS OF SUPERVISION)

Under the direct supervision of the Learning and Development Specialist the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, they may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • be able to identify what an effective blended learning programme design comprises in practice and have practical experience in the development of at least one.
  • be able to effectively source, curate and assemble learning resources in the context of specific development outcomes for learners and appropriate to the organisational and cultural context
  • have developed hands-on experience in working with a learning experience technology platform
  • have supported the technical delivery of virtual facilitator led sessions using Microsoft Teams
  • Have a portfolio of project examples of demonstrable organisational and coordination skills
  • Have experience of working with third party vendors and partner organisations to deliver results for WFP

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
