KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the direct supervision of Boat Operator and overall supervision by Administration Assistant in Sittwe Field Office, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Navigation Support: Assist with navigation tasks and providing input to the boat pilot regarding course adjustments or potential obstacles.
- Maneuvering: Help in maneuvering the boat during docking, anchoring, and berthing operations.
- Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Participate in safety drills and maintain a high level of readiness for emergency situations. Assist in the implementation of safety procedures, including the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Deck Operations: Support deck operations, such as loading and unloading cargo, securing equipment or supplies, and maintaining a clean and organized deck space.
- Communication and Record-Keeping: Assist in maintaining communication systems, such as radios or electronic communication devices, and recording relevant information in logbooks or reports.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections of equipment and systems, ensuring they are in good working order. This includes checking and replenishing fluids, cleaning equipment, and reporting any malfunctions or deficiencies.
- Passenger and Crew Assistance: Provide assistance and support to passengers and crew members, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being during the voyage. This can involve providing information, addressing inquiries, and responding to needs or emergencies.
- Environmental Protection: Follow environmental guidelines and regulations to minimize the boat's impact on the environment. This may include waste management, fuel conservation practices, and adherence to pollution prevention measures.
- Emergency Response: Participate in emergency response activities, such as firefighting, man-overboard procedures, or rescue operations. Follow established protocols and assist the boat pilot in implementing emergency response plans.
- Knowledge and Compliance: Stay updated on relevant maritime regulations, safety standards, and operational procedures. Comply with applicable laws and regulations to ensure safe and legal operations.
- AOB: Any other related professional duties that may be assigned.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: No specific requirements. Completion of secondary school education is an advantage.
Experience: One year or more of related work experience.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Knowledge of basic equipment and use of cleaning materials/solutions.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment and supplies related to work in a good working condition.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and meet the deadlines.
• High sense of responsibility and initiative.
• Punctuality, honesty and integrity.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
• Ability to work in a team.
Language: Intermediate knowledge (level B) in both oral and written communication in English language and Myanmar and communicable in local dialect at the duty station will be an added advantage.
