ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

As the World Food Programme marks its 60th anniversary in 2023, we find ourselves in the midst of the greatest and most complex food security crisis in modern times. With the support of our donor partners, we scaled up direct food and nutrition assistance and worked to prevent famine and, in 2022, WFP and partners reached a record number of people – an estimated 158 million -with food, cash, and commodity vouchers. This is the largest number ever assisted in our history.

WFP’s workforce has been growing significantly over the past years, in line with the growing demands on the organization to address food security challenges worldwide. Currently the WFP workforce consists of more than 24,000 employees spread over more than 120 countries.

This position is based in WFP headquarters in Rome and reports to the Head of the Job Evaluation Unit, under the overall supervision of the Chief, Talent Management branch (HRMTM).

THE ROLE

The purpose of this assignment will be on responding to a growing demand for Job Evaluation services, by (i) conducting classification reviews of Job Descriptions in support of Talent Management processes; and (ii) supporting functions with the review of WFP Job Profiles in line with evolved staffing requirements, building on Strategic Workforce Planning analyses. The position will provide a critical contribution to WFP’s People Policy objectives, enabling job equity, through a consistent and fair application of job classification standards across the organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • You provide specialized Job Evaluation advice and guidance to managers and HR colleagues across the organization.
  • You conduct review of Job Descriptions to support other Talent Management processes (e.g. reassignment, recruitment) to ensure the job requirements are aligned and consistent with the organizational standards[1].
  • You partner with functions to support the ongoing review and development of WFP Job Profiles to be aligned with evolved organizational staffing requirements.
  • You provide guidance and project management support to functions to enable consultative, timely and effective review and development of WFP Job Profiles.
  • You work closely with HR colleagues across the organization, to ensure WFP Job Profiles are building on available strategic workforce planning analyses and reflect field requirements.
  • You perform analyses to identify trends in new Job Profile requirements.
  • You collect information and best practices through online research and partnering with counterparts at other UN agencies.
  • You plan, design and develop specific capacity building initiatives (i.e.: brown bags, webinars, community of practice, …) based on identified needs, capacity building priorities and in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • You provide coaching, training and guidance to other team members proactively sharing knowledge and act as role-model in order to contribute to a safe growth environment and to the integration of new colleagues in the organization.
  • You support other initiatives and projects, when needed and upon request.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Advanced University Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial relations, Business Administration, or other related fields. First University degree may be accepted with additional relevant courses and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in various Talent Management roles in an international context.
  • Experience in Job Evaluation, Workforce Planning and/or Organization Design is required.
  • Experience working with the UN/ICSC job evaluation standards is highly desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language) is desired.

  • Good knowledge of recognized Job Evaluation methods, UN/ICSC, Hay or similar.
  • Knowledge of how to analyze jobs, structures and workforce composition.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills, with the aptitude to adapt communication style to relevant audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at any time, while maintaining high standards of work on a tight schedule in a fast-paced environment.
