Project Officer – Market Systems Development

About the Organization:

Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is a specialized organization in development cooperation and humanitarian response, dedicated to creating a just world where individuals determine the course of their lives with dignity and security, while utilizing environmental resources sustainably. We are currently seeking a result-oriented and innovative Project Officer to contribute to our 20 Dunums for Change (20D4C) project in Jordan.

About the Project:

The 20D4C project, funded by AFD and implemented by a consortium of four partners, aims to promote the economic empowerment of Jordanian small farmers and vulnerable Syrian and other workers in the agriculture sector. The project focuses on improving market linkages, climate-smart agricultural practices, income diversification, financial inclusion, and the reduction of child labor. By fostering change in behavior and systems, the project strives to achieve three outcomes: increased productivity and higher income for small farmers, access to safe and resilient livelihoods for vulnerable agriculture workers and farmers, and improved working conditions with reduced incidents of child labor.

Responsibilities:

• During the inception phase, support the project manager in implementing studies and assessments planned for Irbid, Mafraq, and Amman.
• During the main phase, facilitate the overall implementation of project activities focused on market systems development.
• Link farmers and farmer groups with downstream and upstream market actors.
• Support the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and coordinate closely with project implementing partners.
• Assist the project manager in ensuring project implementation and achievement of targets.
• Contribute to project monitoring, results evaluation, and vetting of project partners.
• Collaborate and coordinate with the project team, promoting solution-oriented approaches.

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, International Development or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, preferably in inclusive economic development or private sector development.
• Understanding of the Market Systems Development approach.
• Strong knowledge of private sector practices, business development, and entrepreneurship development.
• Experience in project planning, implementation, including managing budgets, timelines, and stakeholders effectively.
• Ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders such as farmers, local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors.
• Experience in conducting research, analyzing data, and providing evidence-based advice for private sector development.
• Familiarity with the economic context of Jordan, business conditions, and the business environment in the country.
• Team player with the ability to work independently and plan and implement work effectively.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic environment, including travel to project sites as required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders. Experience in preparing reports and presentations.
• Proficiency in ICT and Microsoft Office suite applications.
• Excellent proficiency in Arabic and English (oral and written).
