Editor, Office of Inspections and Investigations

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Title of Post: Editor (OIGI)

Division: Office of the Inspector General (OIG)

Duty Station: Home based

Duration of assignment: Six (6) months with possible extension

DUTIES:

The Editor, Office of Inspections and Investigations, will assist the Director, OIGI, in developing the professional writing capacity of OIGI team members to ensure that they meet the standards of the Conference of International Investigators Investigations Guidelines, OIGI’s Investigation Guidelines, OIGI’s Standard Operating Procedures, WFP Style Guide and other relevant WFP policies.

Under the general supervision of the Director, OIGI, and direct supervision of the Chief, Quality Assurance and Policy, the Editor will be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Assist the OIGI team with drafting and writing OIGI written products;
  • Provide ad hoc coaching and mentoring to OIGI team members who request assistance with drafting OIGI written products.
  • Review draft reports to ensure they follow OIGI’s report templates and WFP style guide;
  • Without changing their technical content, edit the draft reports for constructive, clear and concise presentation;
  • Proofread OIGI investigative products checking the documents against professionally accepted standards of grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation as well as spotting formatting.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education:

  • University degree in English, Communications, Journalism or other related fields.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of postgraduate professional experience in substantive editing, proofreading and copy editing in English;
  • Experience in reviewing draft investigation assignment reports is an asset.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent English writing and editorial skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Project, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) and other standard office software packages and systems.

  • Attention to detail, resourcefulness, personal initiative, maturity of judgment and tact;
  • Ability to communicate and present clearly both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to develop creative solutions;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with tact;
  • Ability to work in a team and to establish effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English.

Terms and Conditions

The Consultant will be engaged when editing and associated services are required. The consultancy fee will be paid per day or half day. Payment will be made upon submission of monthly invoices, specifying the number of working days spent on each audit report review case, and providing documentation to support pre-approved expenses.

The Editor will maintain the confidentiality of information and knowledge for this assignment, which should not be used or disclosed or printed in any publication.
