Education and Youth Advisor – Teacher Training Advisor

The “Promotion of Quality in Inclusive Education (PROMISE)” project in Jordan is seeking an “Education and Youth Advisor – (Teacher Training Advisor)” for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • University degree (Master’s or PhD) in an area that is related to education, such as teacher education, inclusive education, curriculum development or instructional material design or has sufficient qualification through applied advanced trainings
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in the Education Sector in Jordan and/or the region
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in teacher training
  • In-depth knowledge of international discourse around universal design for learning, social-emotional learning, and inclusive pedagogy
  • Knowledge of and experience in disability screening processes would be an asset
  • Experience in managing grants contracts
  • Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken, written)
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a comparable position
  • Very good networking skills
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring as well as facilitating dialogue sessions, coordinating stakeholders
  • Very good working knowledge of ICT and computer applications (MS Office/MS Teams and other applications)
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams

Main activities

  1. Advising the partner institution
  • Conducts a need assessment on training regarding inclusive education within the training framework of the MoE
  • Identifies strategies for mainstreaming Inclusive Education into teacher training and capacity development
  • Provides technical advice to the MoE (including decentralized units Field Directorates) to strengthen and mainstream Inclusive Education in existing, accredited in-service teacher training
  • Identifies and contracts relevant partners to develop targeted training with a special focus in the area of disability inclusion and learning difficulties, steers and monitors the set up of financial grants
  • Works closely (coordination, monitoring, quality assurance) with implementing partners who might be granted or sub-contracted to conduct activities and achieve results related to the teacher training component
  • Supports relevant units within the MoE with targeted advise in the area of Inclusive Education and teacher training
  • Supports and contributes to the implementation and achievement of the PROMISE indicators
  1. Networking and cooperation
  • Maintains contact, communicates, and interacts with government institutions, non-governmental agencies, and participates in meetings
  • Networks with local organisations, development partners, and NGOs engaged in teacher education
  • Supports the cluster, project and team members with relevant information
  1. Coordination tasks
  • Contributes to general project planning, result-based monitoring and evaluation
  • Compiles all relevant information for joint activities and assignments
  • Works in close collaboration with the school-based inclusive education component (component 2)
  • Presents the results of the activities in relevant events for knowledge sharing.
  1. Other duties/additional tasks
  • represents the interests and always acts on behalf of GIZ.
  • conducts other relevant tasks upon the requests of the direct superior.
  • regularly follows up on changes in GIZ Processes and Regulations Tool (P+R) in relation to project’s field of work.

Core tasks

In your role you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organisational implementation of a project’s measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3, and ensuring the quality of the commission’s outcomes.

In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.

You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners, and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.

In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.

In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.

You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management, and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarising themselves with and performing their tasks.

You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
