Junior Procurement and Contracting Specialist
The Procurement and Contracting Unit at the GIZ Country Office in Jordan is seeking for “Junior Procurement and Contracting Specialist” for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.
Qalifications and specialist knowledge
- University degree (business administration, law, or other relevant field)
- At least 3 years of working experience in the procurement of goods or contracting of services
- Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications
- Very good knowledge of English and Arabic, both spoken and written
- Very good organizational skills
- Accuracy and high attention to details
- Proactive working attitude
- Client and service-oriented attitude
- Excellent communication and cooperation skills
Main activities
- Supporting in conclusion of local contracts of consultancy/services for individuals and firms, issues invitation to tender and processes orders in accordance with GIZ P+R

- Assessing the submitted proposals based on the established criteria and required product specifications and negotiating agreements, in collaboration with Procurement Specialist and Head of Division
- Monitoring supplier performance, following up orders, inspecting and assessing the quality of the supplied goods and services, and solving problems together with suppliers
- Dealing and advising with/on all questions arising in this area of procurement of services
- Coordinating with colleagues in the projects, other Divisions of the Country Office, and with contracting officers at the Head Office.
- Regularly checks the changes in GIZ (P+R) in relation to the field of work.
Core tasks
In your role you assist in working on all job orders within your remit and provide support as the main contact for advising managers and other staff members on all issues in the thematic area, in particular the procurement of services, materials and equipment, customs declarations and vehicle registration.
You clearly communicate the relevant requirements, conditions and restrictions in terms of your capacity to act with due regard for compliance rules and P+R.
You support experienced specialists in awarding contracts, entering into contracts in accordance with the relevant legal, contractual, socio-political and corporate policy requirements/P+R and monitor the processing and fulfilment of those contracts.
In consultation with your line manager, you research and identify potential providers and suppliers, and obtain and evaluate bids.
Your role involves close consultation with the projects and programmes in order to clarify details related to their procurement requirements and guidelines on the award of contracts and develop appropriate solutions.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarising themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
