ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This fixed term contract for Monitoring Assistant position is based in WFP Ethiopia, Hawassa Duty Station. The incumbent will report to the Programme Associate or Officer in the sub office (SO). The position is primarily responsible for implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of food assistance programmes in the sub office with major focus being nutrition services.

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

WFP supports over 1.4 million people in the field office through implementing a range of activities under the current Ethiopia Country Office CSP (2020-2025) serving host population and South-Sudanese Refuguess with different food assistance programmes. The core activities include a) General food distribution (GFD) for refugees, b) nutrition sensitive home-grown school feeding that sources food locally from smallholder farmers, c) Treatment of moderate acute malnutrition, and c) capacity strengthening support for Government on early warning system, food security assessment and analysis, market and price monitoring as well as Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning. The filed office manages operations in three regions located in Southern Ethiopia. To perform specialized and/or standardized policy and programme-related processes and activities to support the effective delivery of food assistance interventions.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school education. Diploma or post-graduate certificate in Nutrition, Agricultural Economics, Food Security, Education Program Planning and Management and social sciences is desirable.

EXPERINCE: At least five years of progressive experience in programme and project implementation, including at least five years in project/programme planning, coordination, implementation and M&E. Field operation experience in nutrition sensitive (e.g home-grown school feeding) and nutrition specific programmes and capacity strengthening for government partners.

LANGUAGE: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and knowledge of local language is an added advantage.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Prepare notes for the record/action plan of agreements to address risks.
  • Consolidate and maintain information records on process monitoring findings (medium/high risks), complaint and feedback mechanism and any other programme implementation report.
  • Facilitate/participate in joint monitoring, seasonal needs and food security assessments.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Has experience in providing overall programming support to food assistance programme with major focus on nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programmes
  • General knowledge of monitoring systems and tools.
  • Full knowledge of computer applications (MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Has experience in government capacity strengthening initiatives.
  • Experience in working with government institutions at district and / or local level

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and computer software packages, such as Microsoft Word.
  • Knowledge of work routines and methods in order to complete processes under minimal supervision.
  • Uses tact and courtesy to give and receive information to a wide range of individuals.
  • Have high stamina, interpersonal communication skill and effective collaboration and coordination skill across diverse stakeholders
