Position: Senior Nutrition Specialist

FHI 360 is currently recruiting for the position Senior Nutrition Specialist for the USAID/ Jordan Community Health and Nutrition Project. The Community Health and Nutrition Project aims to improve the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women and children under the age of two in three target governorates in Jordan. The project seeks to support child and maternal health and nutrition by improving breastfeeding practices, introducing appropriate complementary foods at the right time, and ensuring appropriate child spacing through postpartum family planning and continued adoption of modern forms of contraception. The Senior Nutrition Specialist will be based in Amman, Jordan.

Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Nutrition Specialist will lead technical activities in improving breastfeeding practices, complementary food introduction, and capacity building for Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to deliver family nutrition programs. Specific duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by the Senior Nutrition Specialist are as follows:

  • Oversee the technical direction of nutrition activities.
  • Provide strategic leadership on nutrition policy and programming.
  • Provide guidance and technical support in alignment with Government of Jordan nutrition and health policies and strategies, including USAID policy priorities.
  • Contribute to program/project design, implementation, learning, and monitoring and evaluation through active collaboration with project teams.
  • Help develop internal organizational nutrition training and develop tools, guidelines, standards to improve program quality.
  • Contribute to the learning agenda by writing nutrition background documents, briefs, and presentations, including carrying out relevant literature reviews, landscape analyses, and data analysis.
  • Actively engage in nutrition networks and forums to support government nutrition priorities and promote involvement of multiple government sectors, donors, and the private sector in nutrition-related initiatives.
  • Participate as the nutrition representative as it relates to nutrition initiatives in Jordan; and
  • Maintain diplomatic and high-quality interactions and clear and consistent communications internally and with partners in the field.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters (MSc) in public health, nutrition, or related health field, with an emphasis on community nutrition, public health nutrition, Social and Behavior Change Communication or other relevant sub-specialty.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience designing and implementing multi-sector nutrition programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity building experience and significant expertise providing technical assistance to community-based organizations (CBOs) and health care providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of partners including government, community-based organization, implementing partners, and other donor organizations.
  • Prior experience in the Jordan nutrition sector desirable, including experience at the community, district, sub-national and national levels.
  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English required.
