THE ROLE AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Office of Internal Audit (OIGA) is part of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

OIGA’s mission and role is to provide WFP stakeholders with independent and objective assurance and advisory services designed to address the main risks to WFP operations and help WFP achieve its goals through improvements to the effectiveness of its governance, risk management and controls.

Under the supervision of the Data Scientist Team Leader (“Team Leader”), the Data Analyst (“Analyst”) will be responsible for assisting in exploring, identifying, and acquiring data sources; leveraging data science methods to support OIGA assurance activities; designing and developing data science products; promoting data science solutions through client training and during development activities; designing and developing customized visualization and presentation products for OIGA; and participating in internal audits and investigations by assisting and performing tasks under the supervision of auditors and investigators.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Assists in exploring, identifying, and acquiring data sources to determine their suitability for risk assessments, audits, and investigations. Enables broader use of data sources by applying quality methods to structure, clean, format, parse, and standardize for analytical use.

2. Establishes a close working relationship with members of the OIGA team and key clients to leverage data science methods to support their assurance activities with solutions that assist them in accomplishing their mandates.

3. Contributes to the design and develops data science products to reveal insights and provides an understanding or knowledge of the data that would otherwise not be detected without the application of advanced analytical methods such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, data and text mining, natural language processing, statistics, and use of relevant algorithms and computational approaches.

4. Assists in promoting the use of data science solutions through client training and the development of products, tools, and processes to extend the capabilities of OIGA.

5. Contributes to the design and develops customized visualization and presentation products to reveal the findings of analysis for clients, suitable for all forms of production to include briefings, reports, documentation to OIGA, interactive interfaces, and publication of quality outputs.

6. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, liaise with technology stakeholders to access infrastructure, software and services needed to develop and deploy data science products for OIGA.

7. At the request of OIGA management and in coordination with the Data Scientist Team Leader, participates in internal audits and investigations, assisting and performing audit tasks under the supervision of auditors and investigators, producing findings and reports within the stipulated timeline and quality requirements.

8. Stay abreast of data science trends and innovation in order to propose improvements to internal processes and tools.

9. Guides, trains, and coordinates the activities of more junior staff in the Data Analytics team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

You have:

  • University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or any related field that includes intensified data analysis in the curriculum.

EXPERIENCE:

You have:

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area. Advanced degrees in applied data science, mathematics, or statistics may be counted in place of work experience.
  • Experience working with data science tools currently used by OIGA, such as R, Python, Tableau, and SQL and non-SQL databases, is required. Knowledge of SAP, Javascript, SAS, or related programming languages would be considered an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge of internal audit, risk management, and fraud investigations are desirable but not required. Experience working with and supervising diverse teams of interns, junior professionals, and consultants in data science, data engineering, or data analysts is also desirable.

LANGUAGE:

You have:

  • Fluency (level C) in English language.
  • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (A WFP’s working language)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational.

WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, travel, visa and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
