We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Nutrition division, based in Rome, Italy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Nutrition is prioritized as a core element in WFP’s work and is essential in achieving Zero Hunger and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objective of this position is to improve the availability of and access to nutritious foods and analyses and address barriers that communities face in accessing and consuming healthy and nutritious diets. Additionally, supporting the capacity of countries to find long-term solutions and contribute to the broader policy dialogue on food and nutrition security.

In 2021, WFP provided food and cash to more than 23.5 million people, including women, girls and boys, through wasting treatment and prevention of malnutrition programmes in 51 countries worldwide, 10.9 million people received services for the prevention of malnutrition, including wasting, stunting and micronutrient deficiencies. 12.7 million people suffering from wasting were treated by WFP.

Knowledge Management (KM) is a comprehensive process that helps an organization gain insight and understanding from its collective interpretations, ideas, and experiences through systematically locating, capturing, creating, sharing, applying and storing knowledge and knowledge materials. KM is critical for refining technical tools, policy guidance, organizational processes, and ultimately improving programme impact. KM also contributes to institutional memory and sustainably improving organization capacity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general direction of the Chief of Knowledge Management and Digital Innovation, and directly reporting to the Nutrition Platform and Data Management Officer, the intern will support platforms, learning and knowledge management of the Nutrition Division (NUT).

• Provide content-writing and editing to support the maintenance of the Nutrition topic section on WFPgo (internal intranet)
• Support in the updates and creation of visual assets for the NUT learning platforms
• Provide content-writing and editing support to produce various materials and documents
• Manage the Nutrition shared folders and other repository on different platforms as such as Teams and SharePoint Online
• Support in the organization process of nutrition-related events (in-person and/or online), including the Global Nutrition Brown Bag webinar series for WFP Nutrition global staff
• Support the dissemination of the nutrition newsletter
• Support other NUT Knowledge Management colleagues on an as-needed basis

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
• University course attendance in the past 12 months.
• University course/ degree in nutrition, nutrition science, global nutrition, Law, international development, Digital Communications/Social Media, or Mass Communication or related field. Advanced degree in relevant field desirable.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Yammer)
• Technology-friendly and able to quickly learn to use new tools as necessary
• Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds
• Strong communications skills
• Ability to manage projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders on deadlines
• Good planning and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently.

WORKING LANGUAGES

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).

Working knowledge of another UN language desirable.

SUPERVISION (Level/Methods of Supervision)

Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Platform and Data Management Officer, Knowledge Management and Digital Innovation, Nutrition division.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should have:

1. Provided support to WFP Nutrition members at CO, RB and HQ level
2. Kept the Food and Nutrition pages of WFPgo up-to-date and relevant
3. NUT Welearn platforms successfully revamped
4. Global Nutrition shared folders effectively updated and made useful
5. NUT related events successfully organized and executed
6. Nutrition-related resources and events shared with WFP Nutrition global community, including through the dissemination of weekly newsletters and Yammer posts

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

• Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
• WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
• WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
• WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
• Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
