Project Background:

The Public Financial Management and Administration Activity (PFMA) aims to work in partnership with USAID/Jordan and the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to improve Jordan’s revenue system and enhance their budget management process. PFMA will build the capacity of the Jordanian Ministry of Finance and other government institutions to modernize the revenue collection system, encourage compliance—including making it easier for taxpayers to comply with tax obligations—upgrade public procurement management, and improve budget planning, preparation, and execution. Key objectives include: 1) improving the revenue raising system; 2) streamlining the budget management process; 3) optimizing public expenditure management; and 4) implementing crosscutting Public Financial Management reforms such as interventions to address COVID-19. Through a combination of technical assistance, capacity building, and facilitation, tangible and measurable results are expected during the anticipated five-year duration of the activity.

Position Description:

The Translator will support the translation and interpretation services to all activities under the JPFMA. The Translator will provide translation and interpretation in both Arabic and English languages, according to DAI’s policies and procedures. S/he will provide translation of all the documents, reports, letters, studies produced by the project or received from the counterparts, when needed, and ensure the quality of all the documentations and reports produced by the project in terms of terminology and lexical, stylistic, and semantic content. The Translator will report to the Senior Translator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and high-quality written translations, while ensuring consistency of terminology and correspondence to lexical, stylistic and semantic content of the original.
  • Perform simultaneous and consecutive oral interpretations during internal & external meetings, trainings, workshops, visits to counterparts and other official occasions as required.
  • Support the interpretation/translation and computerized production of all original and translated materials produced within the project, such as technical manuals and documents, progress reports, official letters, catalogs, briefings, annual work plans, presentations, incoming and outgoing correspondence and purchase documents etc.
  • Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials outside the office to ensure accuracy and consistency with the project’s special terminology.
  • Contribute to enriching an in-house terminology database in coordination with the Senior Translator and other team members.
  • Assist personnel in matters concerning Arabic language and tradition; Prepare training materials, manuals and correspondence in Arabic or English as required.
  • Perform general editorial and administrative duties as assigned by the Senior Translator.
  • Handle confidential information appropriately and strictly.
  • Serve as a facilitator and interpreter for meetings between long-term and short-term project experts and local counterparts and/or beneficiaries.
  • Provide other translation, facilitation, and interpretive services as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Senior Translator.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, English Language, Languages, or relevant field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in translation/interpretation with USAID funded projects or International organizations in the following areas: budget formulation, budget execution, accounting and reporting, audit, taxation, public spending, customs, government procurement, etc.
