The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Key Accounts Team (PPRK), of the Partnerships and Resourcing Division (PPR), based in Rome, Italy.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:
The Public Partnerships and Resourcing Division (PPR), invests its efforts to build partnerships with governments and to harness intelligence on the funding priorities of donors with the intent to enable Regional Bureaux and Country Offices improve the matching of needs with funding opportunities. The division aims to provide WFP with the latest information regarding the prevailing resourcing trends and necessary guidance to secure funds from different sources. Within the division, PPRK is in the front-line for Government donors engagement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Senior Government Partnerships Officer (GPO), the incumbent will support the Team Leader and GPOs in PPRK in managing the relationships with a number of key donors. The incumbent will be responsible for a wide variety of assignments, including but not limited to the following:
- Assist with research on donor background and trends, including ODA policies and funding trends; assist in conducting internal research on relevant data and trends of WFP programmes, and on the overall knowledge management processes/updates/checks in PPRK.
- Conduct a weekly press review and analysis on political developments in assigned donor countries, selecting the most relevant updates on WFP and advising the GPOs; consolidate weekly inputs from PPRK GPOs and capital offices for the departmental newsletter for the Team Leaders’ clearance;
- For selected donors, assist in preparing documents, including correspondence, briefings and other materials for the GPOs and WFP senior management;
- Assist in the organization of donor events and donor bilateral meetings, including – among others – high level consultations, travel to capital; joint field visits, donors missions to Rome;
- Provide support to GPOs in managing relationships with donor as required; Participate in meetings and events with donors and team activities as required; Perform other duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
- University course attendance in the past 12 months.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Be currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a Bachelor’s (with at least two years completed) or Graduate programme (i.e. Master’s) in Political Science, International Relations, Development, Communications or other relevant field;
- In both circumstances, have attended courses in the last 12 months Have proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Written and oral proficiency in English – good command of a second UN language is desirable. Knowledge of Italian is an asset. Strong analytical skills, advanced drafting/writing skills are essential.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- General knowledge of UN system policies and processes; Some experience in project management and fundraising;
- Interest or experience in volunteering or working on the issues of food security and nutrition; Interest or experience in volunteering or working in developing countries.
WORKING LANGUAGES
Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required. Proficiency proficiency/level C Italian is desirable
SUPERVISION (Level/Methods of Supervision)
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Government Partnerships Officer (GPO), the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be part of the supervision. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
- WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
- Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
