EDUCATION

Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. Trainings/courses from an institute of repute on gender, inclusion, or development studies would be desirable

EXPERIENCE

At least seven years of progressively responsible professional experience working in gender and inclusion related fields.

LANGUAGE

Fluent oral and written communication skills in English. Fluency in Hindi preferred

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization that is committed to saving lives in emergencies and changing lives through sustainable development. WFP is working with 83 countries around the world, supporting governments in their efforts to reach the targets under Sustainable Development Goal 2 – improving access to food, ending all forms of malnutrition, improving incomes, and promoting sustainable agriculture.

In India WFP has been closely working with the Government of India and the state Government of Odisha since 1963. Since 2012, WFP has been providing technical assistance and capacity development to Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, School & Mass Education, and Planning and Convergence Departments to ensure improved access food through transformation of TPDS, access to nutritious food through food fortification, and analysis of food and nutrition security scenario respectively.

WFP believes that a world free of hunger cannot be achieved unless everyone has equal opportunities, equal access to resources and equal voice in the decisions that shape households, communities, and societies. Gender equality, women empowerment and inclusion are therefore integrated into all of WFP’s work to ensure that the differential food and nutrition needs of women, men, girls and boys are met and all marginalized and vulnerable groups are able to access food. WFP’s Gender Policy (2022-27) aims to work towards advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in a sustainable manner to meet the following objectives: (i) Equitable access to and control over the means to achieve food security and nutrition; (ii) Addressing the root causes of gender inequality, and (iii) Economic empowerment of women and girls.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

The post holder should have strong technical, analytical, research and programmatic skills, ability to coordinate activities and conceptualize, design, and execute action plans. Demonstrate passion and motivation with the ability to manage complexities, multiple tasks with commitment to deliver against multiple, often tight, deadlines at work. Excellent team player with an ability to work collaboratively, share information and build strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds while focusing on impact and results. Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical, presentation and documentation skills. Maturity and presence required to effectively coordinate with partners and communicate with stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of the Indian Government bureaucracy, and gender, women empowerment, tribal development, disability inclusion related programmes desirable.

JOB PURPOSE:

The position will be based at New Delhi, in the WFP Country Office, and will work under the direct supervision of the Gender and Inclusion Officer. She/he will coordinate with other colleagues in the Country Office, State offices and partners for implementing work under the gender and inclusion portfolio and for administrative and other issues as required. She/he will complete the assigned tasks in consultation with the supervisor and will be required to liaise with colleagues in other units on a regular basis, and other external partners as required. She/he may also have to travel to WFP Field Offices and other states.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (Not all inclusive)

Under the direct supervision of the Gender & Inclusion Officer, the position will be responsible to perform the following duties:

  1. Provide research and coordination support to gender and inclusion assessments, including gender equity, disability inclusion, tribal studies, marginalized groups, etc.
  • Draft concept notes and proposals for new assessments or research studies.
  • Conduct literature reviews and secondary data analyses on different assessment topics as required.
  • Support in the preparatory work for conducting assessments, including designing quantitative and qualitative tools, planning field data collection, preparation of ToRs and hiring of data collection agencies.
  • Support in training of investigators; coordinate and monitor the field data collection by the agencies.
  • Support in data analysis and report writing and prepare research and policy briefs and other publications out of the assessment reports.
  • Support the organization of dissemination events as required.
  1. Provide programmatic and technical support to projects related to gender equity and women empowerment
  • Conduct training needs assessment, prepare training modules and other training material, and plan and schedule trainings on gender, women empowerment, financial literacy, digital literacy, and other topics as required as per project needs.
  • Support capacity strengthening activities with communities and partners, including livelihoods trainings, behaviour change communication and assessments, that may be part of a gender equity/women empowerment programme.
  • Support engagement and coordination with partners, provide implementation support and participate in field-based activities of gender equity/women empowerment programmes as required.
  • Facilitate organization of internal and external trainings, meetings and learning sessions on gender and related fields.
  1. Support partnerships, advocacy, and communication
  • Support the establishment of partnerships with external agencies on gender and inclusion.
  • Participate in external partner meetings on gender and inclusion related issues, as required, and support in related activities.
  • Support the organization of consultations and other events on gender and inclusion related themes
  • Support the coordination of Gender Results Network and organization of staff sensitization sessions and campaigns such as on International Women’s Day and Sixteen Days of Activism to end Gender-Based Violence
  • Participate in the UN Inter-Agency thematic group meetings on gender, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and disability inclusion, and support in related activities.
  • Support the preparation of progress reports, analytical notes and updates on WFP’s work on gender and inclusion.
  • Prepare articles, briefs or other communication material based on WFP’s work on gender and inclusion and support its dissemination through various communication media.
  1. Other responsibilities
  • Support the development of funding proposals as well as identifying sources of funding for projects related to gender and inclusion.
  • Provide background notes, data or updates on different gender and inclusion topics to the management or programme teams as required.
  • Maintain proper documentation of meetings, workshops, and consultations.
  • Support in any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
